OECD and Altmetric commence impact pilot
Data science company Altmetric has launched a pilot project with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to track and report on the broader impacts of more than 120,000 articles, chapters, books, papers, tables, charts and statistical datasets in the OECD iLibrary. The OECD seeks to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world, and provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. The OECD will adopt the Altmetric
Explorer for Institutions platform to analyse attention data internally, and hopes to later deploy Altmetric badges to provide visitors an indicator of the attention an item has received across the OECD iLibrary platform. In addition to hosting OECD’s content, the iLibrary also contains content published by the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), the OECD Development Centre, PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), and the International Transport Forum (ITF). Toby Green from OECD’s public affairs
and communications directorate, said: ‘Measuring the broader impacts of what we publish is vital, because we need to learn what works and what doesn’t. Altmetric data will be a key ingredient in rebuilding the OECD’s impact evaluation activities, complementing our existing traditional and social media monitoring.’ Altmetric founder Euan Adie added: ‘We
know that the OECD’s content is regularly referenced in many of the policy sources we track, so it’s great to be able to provide them with this evidence of the influence of their published outputs. We look forward to working with them to incorporate the data into their ongoing workflows.’ The pilot is running until September. Meanwhile, Altmetric has also partnered with onine publishing platform PubFactory to provide real-time insights into the latest shares, mentions and engagement relating to individual publications – enabling authors, readers, and editors to gather a more comprehensive view of the reach and influence of research.
The Altmetric badge visualisations and
associated details pages offer additional context and more immediate feedback on how a publication has been received.
‘Working with Altmetric makes sense as
we continue to strengthen PubFactory’s support for author services. We view Altmetric not just as a support for publishers in assessing the impact of their content across scholarly and commercial channels, but also as a service to the research community in understanding how content is being used post-publication, its continuing impact, and the context of that impact,’ said Jose Fossi, vice president for client services at PubFactory. Kathy Christian, chief operations officer
for Altmetric, added: ‘We are thrilled to partner with PubFactory to provide Altmetric for PubFactory publishers and their authors. This data provides a much more complete picture of how an item has been disseminated amongst a broader audience, and enables authors to immediately track and quantify the influence of their work.’ PubFactory’s technology platform and publishing services have been adopted by publishers including OUP, DeGruyter, Brill, and the IMF. It hosts more than 1,400 journals and 400,000 books, along with reference works, databases, and other content types.

RedLink, RedLink Network, and INASP have announced a partnership designed to help make usage tools and credentials management available for INASP members. The Zimbabwe University
Librarians Consortium (ZULC) will join RedLink Network and adopt RedLink’s Library Dashboard. The partnership is designed to provide access to these services to the full membership of INASP libraries. ‘I’m thrilled that RedLink
and RedLink Network can help INASP and its members move to the forefront of usage analysis and credentials management with our tools,’ said Kent Anderson, CEO of RedLink and RedLink Network. ‘We want to help libraries level the playing field, and INASP shares that goal.’

INASP has worked with ZULC since its formation in 2001 and is now in the final stages of handing over the sustainable access to ZULC. ‘ZULC is a progressive
consortium that is very willing to work in new ways and with new technology and new partners, so INASP has been very pleased to make this introduction. We look forward to a very successful partnership between ZULC and RedLink,’ said Anne Powell, programme manager, for information access and publisher liaison at INASP.
