“Please, Fix Me!” by Dr. Michelle Eggenberger, DOM, AP, Health Coach and CYT
Unfortunately, many people come to
me until everything else has failed. T is is not actually bad; because as a healer, I know this is one of the greatest giſt s you can encounter. Why? Because, once someone is at this point of suff ering, they are ready to commit and make a change— and when they do, real physical and life transformations are possible. Understand that your symptoms are amazing clues that can guide you to vibrant health. For this above patient, we started
I
s your body breaking down and you don’t know why? A very successful and busy entrepreneur, wife, mother and patient of mine, came to my offi ce years ago saying exactly this: “Please, fi x me! I keep getting sick, I have random symptoms come and go, and this chronic back pain doesn’t go away. I have seen many doctors and specialists who have run tests and lab work and since everything has come out okay (or slightly off ), they don’t really know what is going on. T ey give me pills to alleviate my symptoms, but once something is better, something else comes up! I am tired of getting sick and taking pills, I am in pain, I’m tired and depressed!”
As a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and
an Acupuncturist, I am used to hearing stories like this. Many of my patients come to me when they are at wits end and their previous doctors consider their symptoms a mystery. It is very likely that the root cause of illness stems from a stagnation of Qi (pronounced chee), meaning “life force.” In Traditional Chinese Medicine, our body is seen as an Eco-system, and just like nature, it needs the right amount of water, sun, earth and nutrients to grow and fl ourish. T is life force called QI permeates every living thing, including your body. Qi is not some esoteric “mumbo
jumbo.” It is the actual energy your body needs to process the food you eat and transform it into energy and nourishment for every cell, tissue and organ to function properly. Constant physical and emotional stressors cause this Qi to stagnate and open the body (and the mind) to pain and disease. T e level of pain, chronicity and diffi culty of the disease is completely related to how long the body has suff ered from this stagnation and how constant and powerful these stressors are.
doing acupuncture treatments weekly to help the stagnant Qi (vital energy) start fl owing smoothly and correctly, and she started taking high-quality, high-vibration supplements and a specifi c herbal program to relieve her condition based on the root cause of her unbalance and not merely the symptoms. Her symptoms started to disappear. She noticed she was sleeping better and had more energy. Her digestion also improved. She was able to exercise regularly without her chronic back pain bothering her or taking medication. She learned that small, but signifi cant, changes in food and lifestyle (including specifi c mind-body techniques) helped her manage stress, too. You do not need to be at wits end to
start making changes, too. If you have a mystery condition or chronic pain, I want you to know: Your body CAN heal itself. It just needs little gentle reminders. With the right guidance, you can return to vibrant health!
