Where does the phrase “taking your own sweet time” come from?

H

ere for me, it comes from my own backyard where an enormous Agave (aka Century plant) resides. Four months ago in March, my

husband happened to notice a small shoot rising from the center. T at small shoot quickly grew over 30 feet high within the month.

We googled and found info from the Bach Tower Gardens website. T ey are called

Century plants because they only bloom once, and it could take a whole century! Aſt er all the beautiful fl ower blossoms (ours were yellow), the mother plant will

die. Oh no! I love that gorgeous, vibrant plant. Even my neighbors commented on her size, and 8 years ago when buying our home, the real estate agent mentioned that this plant could be sold to Disney or some other landscape attraction park. Starting in April, every morning we would check to see if the blossoms were opening.

(It was like having our own personal advent calendar.) T is amazing process took a whole four months to complete. As you can see in the photo sequence, she took her own sweet time. At the base, see the 7 small pups (the term for the agave off spring). T ey will not

die; however, they need to be separated to have their own vibrant life. So, this July we see Independence Day a little diff erently. For me, watching this whole process has shed light on the cycle of life. Yes, it

is bittersweet to lose such a vibrant plant. Now, I’m looking on the bright side and wondering how sweet her agave nectar is. I need to learn if the pulpy juice can still be harvested. And, if you’d like a pup, let me know. We have a few to donate. (You’ll need ample space; I expect each will reach a similar large size!) All of us experience sadness in life; however, long-term depression can be avoided.

If you (or someone you know) are going through a time of depression, anxiety and/or pain, you will fi nd many articles to help ease and remedy the situation. Four authors especially off er hope for fi nding happiness naturally: Dr Daniel T omas on Depression and its Root Causes p.16; Kathleen Barnes on Opiod Options p.18; Dr. Michelle Eggenberger on T e Joy of Energetics p.11; and Jan Desai on Four Steps to Authentic Living p.18 all off er natural solutions. Consider all the options before getting a blanket drug prescription! Sadly, too

many Americans are living “IN Dependence” with unnecessary prescriptions. Demand that your doctor performs the proper testing to discover the root cause—and not just treat symptoms. You will fi nd many qualifi ed doctors within these pages who combine conventional medicine with Integrative and Functional Medicine. Seek them out. Yes, you can take your own sweet time. Yet, I hope you fi nd Joy soon. It’s out there!

To all our readers—and pups in our yards, Happy Independence Day! Live Happy and Free,

Margaret Mary Jones PUBLISHER
