especially from Blue Spring State Park, and hear the sweet, playful sounds they make. Sadly, just hours after choosing my cover art from their website, I learned
of the tragic death of the 69-yr-old (oldest ever) manatee named “Snooty.” My layout editor Courtney Noll-Ayers grew up in Bradenton, FL (Manatee county), and she remembers wonderful annual school fi eld trips she took to visit Snooty. He did not die of a natural cause. We dedicate this edition to Snooty and all the other manatees that need our help. On a more upbeat note, I’ve been planning this special edition which focuses on Cancer Prevention and Healing. We thank the many local doctors and healers who contributed to this important topic. (See pages 18-27.) Let’s not view cancer as “a death sentence.” It can be more like “a wake-up call.” There are many natural, alternative therapies to consider; and unfortunately, most conventional doctors in this country are not aware of the importance of nutrition, especially an anti-infl ammatory diet. (This is true for most diseases, not just cancer.) If you or someone you know is dealing with any serious illness, please share this information. Back to the topic of staying cool, last month I wrote that eating ice and consuming icy drinks is bad for humans. Ice is an energy-sapper and makes your body work harder. Well, ice is even worse for animals, especially furry dogs. (See p. 13.) Finally, if you need more sound advice, check out “Natural Sounds Soothe the Brain” (p. 12). I’m picking up the conch shell in my offi ce now to listen, relax and unwind for the next few minutes. Give it a try!
Enjoy the rest of your summer— and Stay Cool!
