David has been the national fire safety advisor and IRMP advisor to the Fire Brigades Union since 2008. David’s current role is wide ranging, but at


its core is primarily focused on the maintenance of firefighter and public safety through the delivery of fire safety in the built environment, and through good fire and rescue service planning. David is currently chair of the British Standard Institution panel revising BS 7974 and PD 7974-0.


John Smeaton Viewpoint (p1)


John has been operating as interim managing director at the FPA for the last three months. He


has 40 years of experience in the commercial property market, most recently as head of commercial property underwriting and risk management for Aviva. He was a non executive director at the FPA for ten years, and sat on the ABI property committee and the advisory board of Pool Re.

A specialist in fire safety law, Warren is managing director and fire safety solicitor at Blackhurst Budd Solicitors.
