Disruptive technology

FOCUS

Eco friendly

Our world is more environmentally conscious than ever. Installers and specifi ers are required to seek out more eco friendly materials to meet the demands of new and prospective clients. Keen on learning the environmental impacts of their CPVC piping, and at the same time looking to inform the public, the Lubrizol Corporation conducted a life cycle assessment to examine the energy input and output during the lifetime of BlazeMaster CPVC piping (see table above). The systems outperformed steel in 12 of

the 13 categories of environmental impact, including human toxicity (chemicals emitted to the environment from human activity and their impact on health), in which it

outperformed steel ten times over. For climate change impacts and renewable energy use, the systems also outperformed steel by 50% and 60% respectively.

Flow rates

Through advanced hydraulic capabilities, the technology of CPVC ensures optimal fl ow rates and the highest Hazen Williams C-factor in the industry of 150. Due to the way it holds up against corrosion, this number will not diminish over time, unlike steel, which usually starts at 120 and diminishes during the life of the sprinkler system.

Because CPVC piping is also smoother

than steel, it can deliver an equivalent flow rate through smaller pipe. Smaller pipe sizes and components will then go on to save time, material and labour for specifiers and installers in the long run. We conclude therefore that for builders,

architects, designers and installers alike, a CPVC fire sprinkler system presents some key advantages that can protect both their profitability and their reputation. It is also clear from the above findings that when used in retrofi ts or in new builds, the disruptive technology of CPVC has the opportunity to outshine steel on multiple fronts
