S31: Unauthorised occupation of non-residential premises – guide to managing risk
Vacant buildings are often more susceptible to the risk of fire (arson), criminal activity, misuse and malicious damage. Insurers are also reporting that there has been a significant increase in the frequency and severity of claims for damage and clear up costs arising from unauthorised occupations of vacant properties, with traveller groups making use of empty buildings for fly tipping. This guide looks at what preparations,
practical measures and security controls can be applied to help manage the risks for such premises.
S32: ATM gas attack security solutions
In a gas attack on an ATM, a compressed gas – usually bottled oxyacetylene – is injected into the ATM and ignited. The number of gas attacks has grown every year with petrol stations, supermarkets and bank branches suffering the largest share of incidents. Crimes involving convenience ATMs
are typified by hold up and ‘rip-outs’, and this document addresses gas attacks as a method. These are typically, but not exclusively, on through the wall ATMs rather than smaller, lower capacity ‘stand alone’ or ‘freestanding’ ATMs in other premises.
