FSB 2017

Infrastructure that promotes physical activity is a key theme for FSB, the international trade fair for amenity areas, sports and swimming pools.

SOME 28,000 international visitors are expected to visit FSB, the international trade show dedicated to showcasing the latest innovations, products and services in

amenity areas, playgrounds, sports or public swimming pools. Visitors will include architects, planners, operators and investors as well as decision makers from municipalities, sport clubs and associations. In addition, almost 650 companies from 45 countries will be exhibiting at the show. Taking place from 7 to 10 November 2017 at

Koelnmesse, Cologne, FSB is co-located with aquanale, the international trade fair for sauna, pool and ambience. It also runs alongside the IAKS Congress. This year, FSB will be looking at some of

the main challenges facing sports and recreational facilities. In conjunction with its media partners, the Federal Association of Playground Equipment and Recreational Facilities Manufacturers, FSB 2017 will examine the role of the school playground in physical activity. Energy efficiency, sustainable technologies

and conservation of resources are just some of the topics covered in the sports facilities area of the show. Planners, architects, operators and investors are looking for solutions for both new

and existing projects and exhibitors will be able to help with environmentally friendly, safe and accessible facilities. “Demographic change and migration are

leading to sports facilities having to become more multifunctional and accessible. And considerations of cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness and safety are also gaining in importance,” says Dr Stefan Kannewischer, president of the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS). “The individualisation of our society and the

merging of work and leisure time are leading to a stronger demand for individual types of sport. These are often practised in public spaces at all times of day… IAKS and FSB present solutions for the manifold challenges and offer a communication platform for the industry professionals in the form of many different activities.” According to Klaus Meinel, general secretary of IAKS, the blurring of the lines between work and leisure presents particular challenges for municipalities,

“This year, the IAKS Congress

will be concentrating on the complex tasks required of municipalities to

ensure that they position themselves as healthy living environments in the future. More and more people are moving into the urban

metropolitan areas and not only need living space, but also sport and recreational facilities. At the same time, the social structure is changing, becoming increasingly more international due to immigration and labour migration. “More and more people are active into old

age and seek suitable facilities and concepts that correspond to their individual interests and abilities. Modern sports and leisure facilities need to reflect this change and their overall approach must also take account of new types of sport and new trends in leisure, in particular for young people and young adults,” he says.
