Architectural team selected for sports and education campus

A team of architects and landscape architects has been selected to design a multifunctional sports facility and outdoor activity area for the De Braak Campus in Helmond, the Netherlands. De Braak Campus is a sports, education and

health park in the heart of the city, being realised by the Municipality of Helmond, the association of secondary schools, Helmond Sport, local amateur football clubs and a national physiotherapy practice. The proposed multifunctional facility will include a stadium to be used as the home ground for Helmond Sport,

school buildings for the education providers, a competition standard sports hall, gymnasiums, and a variety of other multifunctional spaces. The landscape design of the campus forms

an important part of the assignment. In addition to the planned sports pitches, there will be space for individual sports and leisure activities, parking, and a school playground. The architectural team consisting of MoederscheimMoonen Architects, FaulknerBrowns Architects and CULD envisage an iconic building integrated within the

surrounding park area. On one side, the building will be flanked by a school, spaces and the main grandstand for Helmond Sports, and the physiotherapy practice. On the other, there will be a sports hall and amateur football facilities. The campus will be as green as possible to

cope with climate change and heat stress by being better able to absorb heavy downpours and withstand long periods of heat or drought. The provisional design is expected to be complete by 2020 with the campus due for completion in 2024.

New sports facility opens at Solent University

Solent University has officially opened its new sports centre as part of its ongoing £100m estate development plan to transform Solent’s

East Park Terrace (EPT) campus. The new facility includes a spin studio, two exercise studios, a physiotherapy treatment

room, sports hall and a dedicated basketball centre that is one of only two in the country. Equipped by Pulse Fitness, the centre also includes three gyms - a high-performance facility for the university’s elite athletes, a dedicated teaching facility to be used by the university’s sports degree students and a 90- station gym for community use. EXF Fitness also worked in partnership with

Pulse Fitness and Solent University to supply flooring throughout and three bespoke functional training rigs.
