MEMBERS ADVICE

unambiguous and easily read by customers without them having to ask for assistance. Butchers can alternatively utilise a full price list but it must be displayed in a prominent position. For most non-prepacked

items or for products where the customer requests a particular quantity, the unit price per kilogram must be indicated on or near the goods, or on a price list. If you wish you may also use the option to display a price per imperial pound but this must not be more prominent than the metric information. For more expensive products you may indicate an additional price per 100g where this might give a more meaningful indication of the price the customer will have to pay. Some products are

required to have the unit price indicated per 100g. Tese are: • cooked and ready-to-eat

meat including charcuterie items

• pies, pasties, sausage rolls, puddings and flans that are sold by weight - for example, pie slices from a deli counter

MINIMUM WEIGHT SYSTEM Basically, you can use this system to sell items “by the each” (e.g. Burgers 99p each) or packs of mixed barbecue meats for example. You must ensure that you declare a minimum weight on the ticket or price list and ensure that the customer can see how much they are paying per Kg. Of course, you must also make sure that all products weigh at least the declared minimum. Tis is a bit of a grey area

in the regulations but is not normally a problem. If you should encounter difficulties with your TSO or if you require further information

UNIT PRICING Not many butchers will need to worry about this requirement that only affects premises with a sales area of more than 280 square meters. However larger farm shops and butchery concessions

within garden centres or independent supermarkets etc may find themselves within scope. Te measure only affects

any prepacked products and it requires retailers to indicate a unit price per Kg on or very near the goods in question in addition to the normal pricing information. n

With BBQ season round the corner, we’ve developed two new products that will let you get the iconic flavour of Jamaican Jerk in to your counter.

The World Grill joins our extensive list of oil marinades and is perfect for adding some colour and shine to your products. In addition to this, we’ve also release a Jamaican Jerk Spicemix with no added salt, meaning that you can add it to your burgers, stuffing and sausages without having to worry about your salt levels. They each carry our Pure label, so there’s no declarable allergens, MSG, or phosphates in either product.

The Jamaican Jerk World Grill and Spicemix will give your food the instantly recognisable Caribbean flavour of lime, allspice, chilli and spring onion.
