or 3.6 per cent and was 230,800 tonnes and 7.4 per cent greater than the 10 year mean for the period. The year to date output was almost identically ahead of the 10 year average in relative terms, sitting 7.5 per cent or 490,800 tonnes over. Total feed production during the second quarter of 2018 was

The year to date total pig feed production came to 899,000 tonnes, 18,300 tonnes or 2.1 per cent more than in the same period a year previous and 78,300 or 9.5 per cent greater than the 10 year average of production during the first half of the year. A 19,600 tonnes or 1.2 per cent increase over 2017 was seen in
Q2 poultry feed production, with output finishing at 1,597,700 tonnes which was 89,900 tonnes or 6.0 per cent greater than the 10 year average. Whilst second quarter poultry feed production fell a mere 500 tonnes below the record for the period, the year to date total was the highest since records began at 3,130,100 tonnes. 2018’s total was 66,200 tonnes or 2.2 per cent over last year’s total and 197,100 tonnes or 6.7 per cent greater than the 10 year average for the first six months of a year. Second quarter sheep feed production amassed an impressive 47,500 tonnes or 28.8 per cent more than at the same stage a year

earlier. The 212,200 tonnes of output was also ahead of the 10 year average, standing 35,300 tonnes or 20.0 per cent above it. 60,000 tonnes more sheep feed was produced from January to June in 2018 than in the year preceding it, an 11.0 per cent rise to 608,000 tonnes. Additionally, 2018’s total stood at 112.6 per cent of the 10 year average, a 67,800 tonne difference. 42,600 tonnes of horse feed was produced during the second
quarter of 2018, 3,500 tonnes or 9.0 per cent more than during the same period a year earlier and 1,700 tonnes or 4.2 per cent greater than the 10 year average. The 98,000 tonnes of horse feed manufactured during the first six months of 2018 was 6,400 tonnes and 4,300 tonnes more than the year earlier and 10 year average respectively. Other feed was the only sector to produce less during Q2 in
2018 than it had a year previously. The 101,900 tonnes of production was 8,300 or 7.5 per cent lower than 2017’s second quarter output. However, 2018’s production was 4,400 tonnes or 4.5 per cent greater than the 10 year average. Year to date other feed production mirrored its Q2 performance, falling comfortably behind year earlier levels and above the 10 year average. The 193,600 tonnes amassed was 19,000 or 8.9 per cent lower than at this stage of 2017 but 17,600 or 10.0 per cent higher than the 10 year average. Only other feed fell below its year earlier performance in either Q2
or year to date production with all the remaining sectors surpassing the two markers. With total second quarter and year to date production both at record highs it looks set to be another record year of feed production in Great Britain.
