Volunteer with the RAF Association and be at the heart of the historic RAF100 events
The Royal Air Forces Association, on behalf of the RAF100 Appeal, is looking for volunteer fundraisers to be a part of historic events in Cardiff to celebrate the centenary of the RAF. The charity is seeking people to join serving RAF personnel by holding collection buckets at the Cardiff collection, which coincides with the RAF’s static aircraft tour on Friday 18th May. With parades, services and air shows throughout the country all celebrating the Royal Air Force, past, present and future, volunteering with the Appeal will put you right at the heart of events. Katharine Montgomery, Volunteer Manager at the Association says: “We are looking for people who are passionate about the RAF and who want a day to remember. They’ll join serving personnel and collect money
to support RAF veterans, serving men and women and their families. So if
you or anyone you know is looking for a unique and exciting volunteering

SUMMER TIPS
Everyone knows that insulation is helpful in keeping your home warm during the winter months but it can also keep your home cool in the summer. So consider installing cavity wall or loft insulation in your home any time during the year.
Consider cooler showers According to the Energy Saving Trust, each year UK households spend an average of £80 a year on heating water for showers, baths and hot water from the tap. So turning the temperature of your shower down a few degrees, even for the last few minutes to give yourself that refreshing lift, could turn into some real savings.
Have a smarter summer
Smart meters are a great way to keep track of your energy use and help you better understand where savings can be made. You can also set budgets and alerts so you always know if you’re spending more on energy than you’ve budgeted for. Contact your energy supplier for more information about smart meters and see if you’re able to get one installed.
Let sunlight in
On cooler summer days, keep your curtains open during the day to allow natural light (and free heat) to fl ow into your home.
Try a line dry Take advantage of the warmer weather and help lower energy bills by giving your tumble dryer a break and drying your clothes outdoors instead.
Spruce up your boiler A third of homes in England have an old and ineffi cient boiler. The Energy Saving Trust estimates that a new boiler could save you £210 on your annual energy bill, depending on your current house type and boiler. The best time to service or replace your boiler is when you’re not relying on it as much, so summer is the perfect time to take action.
Be fridge and freezer frugal Ensure your fridge is working effi ciently by placing it away from your cooker and direct sunlight and not overfi lling it. You should always keep your fridge away from heaters and keep the back clear. Your fridge will use less energy as it doesn’t have to work as hard to keep food and drinks cool.
But remember that space in the freezer is bad news, so over summer months why not fi ll your freezer with ice cream or lollies.
Get smart about the weather
Smart thermostats can do more than simply heat your home in winter; they can also play a useful role

role, we’d love to hear from you.” Alistair Wilson, a fundraising volunteer with the RAF Association, says: “The fundraising days are fun and interactive and it really is about giving something back.” All money raised will go to the RAF100 Appeal and be shared between the RAF, RAF Association, RAF Benevolent Fund, RAF Charitable Trust and the RAF Museum. No experience is needed for the fundraising roles, as full training is provided. from E.ON’s ‘Green Guru’
Introducing E.ON’s ‘Green Guru’ Mike Feely with some useful summer tips and solutions to help you become more energy efficient. Stay cool with insulation
in summer. Smart thermostats, such as tado°, can adapt to the local weather
forecast to make the most of natural heat on a sunny day, meaning that you save energy.
Store solar power You can harness the power of the sun to power your home by installing solar PV and battery solutions which convert sunlight into electricity and can be used immediately whilst the sun is shining or stored in an at- home battery to be used even after the sun has set.
Prolong summer nights
Make use of the warmer evenings by lighting up your garden with energy effi cient LED lighting or solar powered lights.
Free up space and save If you rely on oil or LPG to heat your home, free up some garden space by installing an air source heat pump. The unit is smaller than an oil tank, giving you more space to enjoy the summer sun and removing the
eyesore and smell of an oil tank from your garden.
