Cardiff based estate agency chain Darlows has raised more than £8,000 for charity by holding a ball in the city.

The group, which has 14 branches across Wales, held the Red Carpet Summer Ball recently at The Village Hotel, in order to raise funds for the children’s charity Magic Moments.

Magic Moments was set up in 1998 by the then chairman of Darlows parent company, Spicerhaart and is dedicated to helping children from supported hospices and their families.

The event was attended by 191 people, including Darlows staff, customers, people from other local businesses and some of the Magic Moments families.

Darlows’ regional partner, Gareth Brackin had hoped the ball would raise £6,000 so is absolutely delighted to have surpassed that figure and hit £8,000, with more money still to come in. “It is absolutely incredible,” said Gareth. “The ball was really well attended and supported, with 191 people coming along to enjoy the fun.

“We started with a red carpet reception, then I spoke a bit about the charity and the wonderful things they do, including taking terminally ill children and their families as well as bereaved families on annual trips to Disneyland Paris. “This really helped people understand what a wonderful and worthwhile charity Magic Moments is and encouraged everyone to give generously!” As well as the drinks reception and meal, the evening also included a raffle, which raised £1,500 and silent auction, which was run by in-house auctioneer Stephen Morgan.

There were 16 lots, which included a signed Scarlett’s rugby shirt and ball, a signed cricket bat, bottles of prosecco and a candle, made by Nicola Quinnell, the wife of former Wales and Lions legend Scott Quinnell, and signed by the man himself.

But the lot that raised the most was a signed Welsh national team rugby shirt which went for just under £500.

There are still two items left to auction – a cap

signed by golfer Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnson and a round of golf at his club in London.

The village Hotel also pledged 10% of bar sales, and as the guests drank the bar dry twice, this should add a considerable amount to the final tally, taking the total fundraising well above £8,000. The event was such a huge success that Gareth is already planning to hold another ball next year, with a provisional date of June 29th. “We had such a hugely positive response to the ball it would be silly not to make it an annual event. “I just want to say thank you to all the branch managers for working so hard to make this ball a success. It was a brilliant night with people travelling all over the country to be there, and giving so generously to this wonderful cause. “I can’t begin to describe the difference this charity makes to children who may have very little time left to live and also to their families, who can continue to receive support even after having lost a child.” If you are interested in supporting next year’s ball, please contact
