School pupils get an inside look at a housing development in Cardiff

A group of school children from Cardiff have paid a visit to a Bellway new homes site for a lesson in housebuilding. Year 2 pupils at Pontprennau Primary School were welcomed to the Highfields development, which will be made up of 150 new homes, off Church Road in Old St Mellons. The pupils were given a tour of the site and showhome by Bellway staff, who gave them an insight into their job roles and the way houses are built. Teacher at Pontprennau Primary School, Joanne Bailey, said: “School trips such as these are not only great fun for the children but also extremely educational. By visiting the site, the children are able to gain an insight into the construction industry, which is something that’s much harder to teach in a classroom. “It also helps our pupils to think more about the way new housing developments are built in the area and the kind of jobs that they themselves might do in the future.” Sales Director for Bellway Wales, Billie Oaten, said: “It is extremely important to us that we engage with the local schools in the area in which we build homes, and this site visit has hopefully helped to inspire the children in their studies and get them start thinking about the types of jobs they might like when they grow up.”

Bellway is building a range of three, four and five-bedroom homes at Highfields. More information on the homes available can be found at belllway.co.uk.
