Sainsbury’s teams up with Goldsland Farm to celebrate Open Farm Sunday

Cardiff volunteer is people’s champion

Goldsland Farm in Cardiff will throw open its gates to the public on 11th June to celebrate Open Farm Sunday. The Sainsbury’s sponsored event will encourage visitors to discover the world of British farming and promises to be a great day out for all of the family.

Visitors can join in the fun by watching sheep shearing demonstrations or taking part in tractor and trailer rides. There’s also lots of activities

planned for

children including such as face painting and a display of vintage tractors.

Abi Reader, Dairy Herd Manager at Goldsland Farm, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors onto the farm at the weekend to take part in some of the exciting activities we’ve got planned and learn more about the work we do.” Now in its twelfth year, Open Farm Sunday has welcomed more than 1.8 million visitors to sites across the UK since it started in 2006. Local Junior Rugby Team Boosted by Ford Sponsorship

Three Evans Halshaw Ford dealerships have helped a local rugby team by sponsoring them for the 2017/2018 season. Evans Halshaw Ford dealerships in Cardiff, Treforest and Merthyr Tydfi l have agreed to sponsor Tondu RFC, a junior team in the Welsh League in Bridgend, South Wales. The team have enjoyed plenty of success recently, winning every game in their most recent

season and at a tag festival at the Cardiff Blues’ Stadium. Each dealership has donated to have their branded logo on the team’s jersey for next season and the arrangement was organised by the Dealership Financial Controller for the three Evans Halshaw Ford dealerships, Dean Jones. Dean’s son plays for the team and the dealership was only too happy to help the team out with a

sponsorship contribution. Dean commented: “As with most clubs at this level in Wales, it’s diffi cult to raise funds and keep teams going. Tondu RFC has a great bunch of players and coaches and we were only too happy to support them with sponsorship.” Discover more about Evans Halshaw Ford at http://www. evanshalshaw.com/ford/

A volunteer from Cardiff has won The People’s Champion Award for helping people in the area who are deaf or have hearing loss. 39-year-old Cat McCrory from Whitchurch began volunteering with Action on Hearing Loss Cymru in 2015. She had recently been made redundant and wanted to keep busy while gaining more skills. Cat began giving her time as an offi ce volunteer for the charity, helping out with various administrative tasks. As time went on she became more involved, assisting with fundraising collections and helping to run monthly Hear to Meet social groups for hard of hearing people in Cardiff and Barry. When the Big Lottery-funded project came to an end last year, Cat stepped in to take over the running of the Cardiff group, to ensure local people with a hearing loss continued to have somewhere to go to get support and social activities. The People’s Champion award was given to Cat to mark Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1-7 June 2017. Action on Hearing Loss Cymru Volunteer Manager Paul Chappell said, “This award recognises Cat’s warmth and care for the people she supports. Cat embraces

difference by acknowledging peoples

hearing loss, being patient with them and by making adjustments. “It’s great to see her celebrated as one of the best in Wales.” The Hard of Hearing Friendly Group runs on the second Friday of each month from 10.30am-12.30pm at Action on Hearing Loss Cymru, Anchor Court, Keen Road, Cardiff CF24 5JW.
