NEW HOMES • NEW DEVELOPMENTS Housebuilder Backs Fun at the Farm

A community farm in Swansea that is raising money for animal food has received an eggs-tremely generous cash donation from a leading West Wales housebuilder. Swansea Community Farm has received a £850 Community Champions grant from Persimmon Homes West Wales. Te charity initiative supports two good causes in West Wales with up to £1,000 each month. Nationally, the scheme has handed over £1million to charities and community groups since March 2015. Set on a 3.5 acre plot just off Pontarddulais Road, Swansea Community Farm has been going from strength to strength for over 17 years, relying largely on volunteers. Ruth Domoney, Finance Worker at the farm, said: “Receiving this funding from Persimmon Homes West Wales is great news for us. “It means we can continue to provide free access to the public and provide a fantastic urban green space for children and adults to get involved in volunteering, training and play activities.

“Our volunteers - aged from eight to 80 - are so important to us. Tey carry out the bulk of the farm work including animal care, gardening, cooking in our café and grounds maintenance. “Many of them are from disadvantaged backgrounds, suffer health issues, long term unemployment or social isolation,

so working on the farm is a great way for them to improve health, learn new skills and bring people together.” Te farm is also being supported this year by Swansea Council, the Co-op community fund and money raised from the sale of farm eggs and meat. Ruth continued: “Animals are at the

heart of the farm and we keep a range of rare breed pigs, sheep, chickens and geese. Caring for animals is also fantastic for people with mental health problems and is central to why the farm approach works. “Tese donations means we can pay for a year’s worth of animal food so it really is a massive help to us.” Sharon Robinson, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We’re so glad to make this donation because we can see how important the Swansea Community Farm is to people in the region. “Supporting charities in the regions in which we build is such an important part of the work we do. “As always it was tough to select a Community Champion so if any charity, group or organisation missed out this time, we urge them to apply again even if they have won previously.” For more information or to apply for funding visit www.persimmonhomes. com/charity. Tim Grey, Sales Director of Llanmoor Homes, says: “Helping the Welsh Government achieve

in Rhondda Cynon Taff is

lower than in other areas and we are continually seeking to work with RCT Council so that when individuals are looking to buy a home they are provide

with equal opportunities.” Llanmoor Homes are currently developing quality new homes at six locations in South Wales and will be announcing further developments shortly.
