Successful children’s author Kate Wiseman
has visited Caerau
Primary School hot on the heels of the publication of her debut title, Gangster School. Signed to new and independent publisher ZunTold, Wiseman is on the road as part of a schools outreach programme. The visit has been a great success, helping to spark an interest in reading and writing amongst year groups 3 to 6 at Caerau Primary. Getting the creative juices of the pupils fl owing, Wiseman has been leading workshops on descriptive writing and vocabulary, as well as an assembly on aspiration. Wiseman said: ‘I’m so excited to be getting in front of children and helping to get them excited about reading and writing. It’s one of the best things about being an author! Charlie, one of the main characters in Gangster School, was modelled on the liveliness of my own son at this age, so it’s fantastic to see the children getting
inspired by the story themselves.’ Wiseman’s debut has been published to great success, proving to be a popular read for children across the board.
The
certainly captured the imaginations of
the Caerau
fast-paced pupils,
with
adventure main
characters Milly and Charlie resonating across the year groups. Teacher Julie Moseley said: ‘Seeing authors like Kate really getting down to grassroots level and spending time with their readers is so great to see. It’s so important to keep children excited about books – and author visits like these really help to inspire young minds.’ Following the enthusiastic reception to book one, Gangster School forms a series of books, and will be followed by a sequel later this year.
