Society, whose members give all their time voluntarily to put on what is now regarded as one of the biggest and best events of its type in the country. Also it is the 25th to be held at Welland. A mixture of nostalgia, sights, sounds and a terrifi c atmosphere await you at Welland. T e event is special in that you can see steam engines performing the tasks they were built for in the years leading up to the Second World War. Ploughing, threshing, timber sawing, etc., will all be undertaken by preserved steam traction engines. T e rally boasts a traditional old time fairground where many of the rides will be powered and lit
by electricity generated by magnifi cent Showmans’ road locomotives. T ere is a large working fi eld where you can see not only steam ploughing but also vintage tractors at work. Corn is threshed by steam power and steam powered saws convert tree trunks into planks aſt er being liſt ed into position by a rail mounted steam crane. Amongst rural craſt s being demonstrated are usually dry stone walling, blacksmithing, fence making and wood sculpture. First seen eight years ago is the Great Welland Railway. T is is a length of standard gauge railway with a full sized steam locomotive giving demonstrations – something you won’t see at many shows! T is year sees a special treat for fans of fairground art. Gathered together in a marquee adjacent to the old time fairground will be a display of examples of fairground art. T ere is cash payment only upon arrival, to buy tickets in advance visit
