The latest facts, fads and tips to help keep you in ship shape condition this winter
LA RESERVE GENEVA
Bespoke programmes involve a roll call of cryo-wraps (to kickstart circulation), balneotherapy (to boost metabolism) and cellulite-blasting lipomassage. But enjoyment is also part of the experience. Café Lauren, a light-filled sanctuary of cream leather, velvet cushions and flattering lighting, is the pumping heart of the spa. Refined sugar is banned, but there’s dense chestnut bread, paper-thin pumpkin ravioli and the best spice-rubbed tuna you’ll ever taste. It makes for the perfect winter spa escape.
HERO ADAPTOGENS ASHWAGANDHA
One of the most widely used herbs in Ayurdevic medecine, this falls on the calming end of the spectrum. It’s known for its anti-axiety effects and can help you get a good night’s sleep too.
RHODIOLA ROSEA
Rhodiola can have a more stimulating effect than the other adaptogens, so a good choice if you are feeling run down but less helpful if you are seeking relaxation.
BEAUTY MYTH USE OF CASTOR OIL INCREASES GROWTH OF EYELASH AND EYEBROW HAIR
While castor oil has long been regarded as nature’s Rogaine, application of the oil itself does not affect rate of hair growth. However when applying the oil, it’s suggested use is massaging it onto the desired area for a few minutes. It’s the stimulation that’s associated with the massage action that likely causes boosted hair growth.
SLEEP APPS

sleep quality. Fall asleep to soothing soundscapes. Measure resting heart rate with your phone.
GOOD MORNING ALARM CLOCK The secret to waking up rested and feeling more energetic and alert is to wake up

BEAT YOUR STRESS
Relax, you deserve it, it’s good for you, and it takes less time than you think. You don’t need a spa weekend or a retreat in order to feel relaxed and happy. If you are feeling stressed, anxious or if you have sleeping problems, try the following tips
Breathe deeply Sit up straight, eyes closed, with a hand on your belly. Slowly inhale through your nose, reverse the process and exhale through your mouth. This helps slow your heart rate, do this exercise for at least 5 minutes.
Decompress Place a warm heat wrap around your neck and shoulders for 10 minutes. Close your eyes and relax your face, neck, upper chest, and back muscles. Remove the wrap, lay on your back, and use a tennis ball to massage away tension all over your back.
Watch your diet What we eat and drink largely impacts our emotional state. Caffeine and alcohol, even consumed in small amounts, can cause anxiety and increase feelings of nervousness and irritability. Greasy and sugary foods will give an instant sense of pleasure. But will disappear even quicker, leaving you with an even stronger feeling of discomfort.
Exercise Exercise is one of the best remedies to combat stress. Putting physical stress on your body through exercise can relieve mental stress. The benefits are the strongest when you exercise regularly.
