Cage Fighter CONTROVERSIAL ACTOR
NICOLAS CAGE ON FINANCE, FILM AND LIFE ON BOARD WORDS: DANNY BOWMAN
the image of actor Nicolas Cage. Further from the truth, the film, nor the perception, could be.

The 58-year-old actor, these days at least, is wholly self-deprecating. How else can you explain a plot which stars Cage as a fictional character whose story mirrors very much the Californian’s own struggles with money.
In the film, cash-strapped ‘Nick Cage’ agrees to make a paid appearance at a billionaire super fan’s birthday party. In reality, the invitee is an informant for the CIA, while the wealthy host is a drugs kingpin.
As the plot evolves, Cage’s mix of moods and contradictions begin to echo very much those he pursues in real life. This is someone who takes on such a broad variety of characters, each with very different accents and personas; he flits between genres almost as regularly as he does wives – currently on spouse number five, Riko Shibata, who he married in February 2021 – and his dress taste is marked as in some ways eccentric, in other ways just plain out of fashion!
is new film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, may, from its title, sound like a voyage into the brashness and arrogance that some paint onto
His shopping excesses are even more unconventional and, for a while, out of control. In 2007 alone, Cage bought three homes (to add to the 15 he’d already acquired up to that point), 22 automobiles (including nine Rolls Royces), 12 purchases of expensive jewellery and 47 pieces of artwork, as well as a dinosaur skull of a Tarbosaurus.
And yet there is one thing that remains constant in this celebrity life of incredible flux is a love of yachts, and one yacht in particular, the Sarita. This was his most prized of four spectacular floating vessels, which had a combined worth of $80million.
The subsequent financial crisis the actor endured surprised few, nor the rapid sale of so many of his assets including, sadly, his beloved 125ft Sarita. The impressive trio of decks on the boat are perfect for outdoor sunbathing and evening meals; there’s a built-in jacuzzi, room for 12 guests, while the interior offers space, 360-degree views and a number of finishes that reflect perfectly the actor’s penchant for reckless spending, from gold-threaded balustrades to diamonds inserted in the light fittings.
“In my mind, a yacht should reflect every bit of luxury you would find at your favourite house,”
