UPFRONT SPEED LEGEND OPEN TO QUESTION

WHEN YOU GET HOME AFTER THE SEASON, WHAT’S THE FIRST MEAL YOU WANT TO EAT?

Originally commissioned in 1984 by Sir Richard Branson as a record-breaking transatlantic superboat, designed by Soni Levy, built from aluminium and equipped with a pair of 2,000hp MTU V12 turbo-diesel engines, this 72-foot brute of a boat cost a cool £1.5 million when it was first built. In 1986, it went on to complete the crossing from America to the UK in a time of just 80 hours and 31 minutes, taking a massive two hours off the previous mark.

PEOPLE REQUEST THE STRANGEST THINGS

A charterer asked if we could convert one of the suites into a gym. After a scramble and 60,000 euros the gym was set up. But not once during the entire charter did a single guest use it. They got drunk and smoked cigars.

RANGE FINDER

Precise range finding, simple and compact: the unique combination of outstanding optics, state-of-the-art measurement and laser technology, and extensive ballistic functionality (whatever that is) in a compact, rugged design. www.leica-camera.com

NAUTICAL TATTOOS SHELLBACK TURTLE The turtle tattoo meaning ranges from long- held associations to patience, fertility, the passage of time, and longevity, to concepts linked with environmental sustainability, travel, and of course for a love of the ocean. Turtle tattoo ideas are a well-known symbol for perseverance, strength and stamina.

FOUND IN THE MED PINNA NOBILIS - NOBLE PEN

The largest bivalve in the Mediterranean can grow to more than a metre long and can provide one of the world’s rarest materials: sea silk, spun from fibres it uses to secure itself to the seabed. The pen shell has been on the European

Union’s protected species list for decades because of overfishing, pollution and the destruction of its natural habitat.

ABBY EMERY, CAPTAIN A proper British roast dinner without fail! Roast beef with everything – Yorkshire puddings, stuffing (may be controversial but I love the stuff), cauliflower cheese (maybe that is even more controversial?), roasted root vegetables and loads of greens. Delicious thick gravy and a small glass (or two) of red wine - what could be better.

DAN BEAN, CAPTAIN Fish and chips from my local takeaway in Whitstable, UK! For those of you with no British geography knowledge, this is on the north Kent coast, a county in south east England. They are well known for great seafood and some knock out pubs.

ANDY BRITTON, CHIEF MATE I just want to cook for myself at home! It’s all very well having everything cooked for you and I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but it’s always on someone else’s schedule, choice and taste. Just being able to cook something the way I like it, something as simple as scrambled eggs cooked my way. Friends always think it’s strange but to me it has become a luxury.

JARI LINDGREN, CAPTAIN Probably a good breakfast. Along the lines of a full English: bacon, fresh tomatoes, baked beans, toast, fried potatoes, fried eggs, pork sausages, blood pudding, with lingonberry jam (you can tell he’s Finnish!). And wash it all down with a gallon of decent strong black coffee, maybe a glass of OJ, just to be healthy. Now, that will set anyone up for the day.

“The boat is safer anchored at the port, but that is not the aim of boats.”

Paulo Coelho

ALEX KOPERTOWSKA, CHEF If it’s at my parents’ house it’s a simple cucumber soup. But if it’s with my boyfriend, it’s oysters and champagne! A simple pleasure to have someone else do the cooking if I’m being honest.
