WILL AI MAKE WORK MORE HUMAN?
The rapid development of artificial intelligence in the workplace is raising some serious philosophical and practical questions. Ruth Holmes asked technology evangelist Clare Dillon, of Microsoft, whether we should fear AI.

and Development) Annual Conference in November, and a look through the list of the latest Relocate Awards winners, are all it takes to see the extent to which technology is now taking over the world of human resources and global mobility. Artificial intelligence (AI) applications
are already supporting those globally mobile-based employees with instant replies to their routine assignment questions, while the HR and mobility experts are being liberated from the mundane and less financially valuable aspects of their roles. Both of these shifts reflect the move from product to service that is now happening
across all businesses as digitisation makes an increasing impact on the workplace.
Technology for good? On the question of how fast and how far technology is advancing in the workplace, and the significant implications of that advancement for issues
such as
job
displacement, Clare Dillon, a freelance consultant and former member of Microsoft Ireland’s leadership team and Developer Experience and Evangelism (DX) Group head, has a positive outlook. Given the huge global challenges
of demographic shifts, healthcare, food poverty, and global warming, Ms Dillon believes that we have no option but to harness AI. “I may be an optimist, but I really do
