Technology is transforming furniture market F

urniture manufacturer, Hill-Rom, is leading the launch of the latest generation of healthcare products

which utilise modern technology to improve patient safety, enhance outcomes, and simplify service delivery. The new HR900 Accella bed and

therapy mattress bring together cutting- edge technology with design best practice to provide an item of furniture that not only serves a function, but is

also equipped with several additional features to simplify nursing tasks. These include an in-bed scale

allowing caregivers to weigh and calculate patients’ BMI accurately; X-ray capability; a three-mode bed exit alarm; and a one-touch side egress system. Alongside the launch of the bed is a

new plug-in mattress which helps to both prevent and treat pressure ulcers

through real-time pressure adjustment. Hill-Rom spokesman, James Rhodes,

said: “Hospitals face consistent challenges to improve patient safety, protect from infections, and other complications during their stay and we are excited to be able to introduce cutting-edge technology that will help to address some of these issues.”

More than beds and bandages O

ffice furniture is not necessarily an area you would associate with the NHS.

But health service procurement is not

all about beds and bandages. NHS Supply Chain Office Solutions,

provided by Crown Commercial Services, gets dozens of enquiries every week, ranging from a ward clerk wanting to place an order for a chair, to a procurement specialist wanting to source bulk purchases or run mini competitions for a major project.

48 healthcaredm.co.uk Now, this process is being made

simpler with the launch, this month, of the Guide to Office Furniture; a comprehensive brochure for the wide range of products available to procurers. The document, which supports NHS

Supply Chain’s Office Furniture Framework Agreement, includes a guide to ‘what makes a seat comfortable?’; details of recycling, repair and refurbishment services offered by manufacturers; and handy tips and advice. The framework agreement, and the

guide, refer to 17 approved manufacturers. They are: • Amaryllis Group Holdings

• Banner Group • Bates Office Services • Complete Business Solutions Group

• EFG European Furniture Group • Emergent Crown Contract Office Furnishings

• Flexiform Business Furniture • Garran Lockers • Gresham Office Furniture • Medicare Products • MS Storage Equipment • Rackline • Rotadex Systems • The Senator Group • Triumph • Wagstaff Bros • Whittan Industrial
