offsite construction
Offsite solution to date protection challenge
The facility has been designed with
multiple independent infrastructure paths, redundant cooling, and dual power sources. Maintenance and component
upgrades can also take place in the live environment. And Secure I.T. Environments will be
providing full maintenance and support services for the new centre, which has an internal footprint of 12m by 10m, for the next three years. The room comprises 16ins by 19ins

ealthcare operators are increasingly relying on up-to-date and easily-accessible online
information – against a backdrop of a worrying increase in cyber attacks that have crippled systems and put sensitive data at risk. With this in mind, trusts up and
down the country are improving their IT infrastructure, including upgrading data centres. And modern offsite construction
methods are playing their part in this new generation of facilities. Secure I.T. Environments has recently
completed a new 120sq m data centre at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Going mobile O
ffsite construction methods will provide a lifeline enabling the Scottish Government to deliver
planned improvements to waiting times. Last month, Vanguard Healthcare
Solutions hosted a special event exploring the potential impact of mobile buildings on meeting the aims set out in the Scottish Waiting Times Improvement Plan. Lindsay Dransfield, commercial director
at Vanguard, told hdm: “The Scottish Government recognises the increasing demand on the whole system of health and care and has issued an improvement plan focusing on the length of time people are waiting for procedures.
“The use of temporary infrastructure,
such as mobile wards, endoscopy, and theatres, has been endorsed as a viable and cost-effective way to support additional capacity in both theatre and inpatient services.”

cabinets with raised-access flooring, cold aisle containment, an overhead power supply system, Novec fire suppression and VESDA detection system, DCiM environmental monitoring of the room and infrastructure, access control systems, and CCTV. It has been designed to meet the
Class 2 requirements defined in BSEN 50600 parts one and two and it also provides a connection to the existing building management systems. UPS systems and batteries were
installed, derived from separate A&B power supply streams, to ensure the resilience and redundancy necessary in hospital environments. Chris Wellfair, projects director at
Secure I.T. Environments, said: “The new data centre will be at the heart of the daily running of the hospital, helping staff and clinicians continue to deliver the highest standards of care.”

• Physiotherapy services continue Portakabin has provided an offsite interim physiotherapy suite at Roodlands Hospital. The building will provide a space for the hospital’s physiotherapists to deliver rehabilitative inpatient care during the £70m redevelopment of East Lothian Community Hospital. The modular building was installed in just one day and will be on site for two years. It features an open-plan office, storage room, hallway, toilets, as well as an open-plan treatment room. In addition to providing the building, Portakabin also installed hospital-grade skirting boards, a fully-DDA-compliant access ramp, and a safety alarm system.

A mobile decontamination unit is helping the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust to save time and drive cost efficiencies across its endoscopy departments. The Quest+ innovation from EMS Healthcare will be stationed at Leicester General Hospital for 12 months, alleviating pressure while the trust centralises its decontamination departments. Features of the unit include four RapidAER Endoscope Reprocessors, a double endoscopy grade height- adjustable sink, integral RO plant, a track-and-trace system. and clean and dirty areas to enable a one-way flow for scopes. EMS Healthcare has officially partnered with reprocessing equipment provider, Cantel (UK), and RO plant provider, Veolia Water Technologies, on the unit, offering a one-stop solution for decontamination.
