Colenso Screen Services celebrates 30 years

O

n October 1, Colenso celebrated 30 years of working in the screen printing industry.

The whole team celebrated in style and toasted to all their loyal customers and suppliers, who have supported the companyʼs 30 year growth.

Candles were blown out on the stunning birthday cake (made by a member of the sales team) and best wishes from across the globe were received, for continued health and prosperity to all those in Colensoʼs screen printing family.

Colenso was founded 30 years ago in the North West of England by Bruce and Shirley Colenso, who started out as specialists in Swiss Sefar mesh and Foteco stencil products. The companyʼs original expertise came from the graphic, industrial glass and ceramic transfer industries, where over 15 colours per print is common practise. This kind of detail required very precise stable mesh, with high tensions and stencils with very fine detail, all of which had to be repeatable to provide incredible colour accuracy.

The background of such precision screen printing, enables the national technical team at Colenso (the exclusive distributors of Wilflex plastisols) to continue to innovate and educate

MagnaColours translates training programme into different languages

M

agnaColours is making its training programme, MagnaAcademy, more accessible to non-English speaking screen printers by translating the modules

into different languages. Spanish versions of Magnaʼs video tutorials were recently produced, and over the coming months, they will also be made available in Russian and Turkish. Helen Parry, managing director of MagnaColours, said: “Having only launched MagnaAcademy at the beginning of the year, itʼs been very well received, and feedback from existing users has been positive and helpful. Itʼs important to us that the academy is useful and provides the information that printers need and want, so weʼre really listening to the feedback we receive and will continue to adapt the resources accordingly. “We know that a great deal of garment screen printing takes place in non-English speaking areas. Countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Russia and Turkey are well known hubs for our industry, and home to some of the biggest distributors of our product range. Because of this, we wanted to translate our modules so theyʼre more accessible for all screen printers, while challenging industry-wide misconceptions and showing just what water-based inks can achieve.” By translating the MagnaAcademy modules, Magna is opening up this expert training to a wider audience, and further spreading the word about the capabilities and quality of water-based inks to areas where screen printing is particularly prevalent.

Marco Girola, JK Group marketing specialist, said: “We are excited to have achieved this goal. Kiian Digitalʼs full certification program gives a competitive advantage to all our partners in serving their customers.” Martin Swift, JK Group marketing director, added: “JK Group strives to develop products that help to make a positive difference to the environment while providing value to shareholders and customers. This is evidenced by Kiian Digitalʼs growing certification programme.”

PPW encouraged participants to say thank you

T

he theme of this yearʼs Promotional Products Week encouraged

members, promotional buyers and supporters to say thank you. The week, organised by the British Promotional Merchandise Association, ran from October 2 to October 6 and shone a spotlight on promotional merchandiseʼs ability to make people feel valued. A recent survey conducted by the BPMA highlighted the fact that almost 80% of people receiving a branded gift feel appreciated, making

merchandise the most powerful advertising medium for saying thank you.

A member saying thank you

In a crowded communication marketplace, marketers, event organisers, PAs, HR managers and others are increasingly using promotional products to not only raise awareness of their brands but to thank their customers, staff and clients. This yearʼs PPW campaign asked people to reflect this trend by saying thank you and sharing pictures of their cool promotional products on social media with the handle #ThankYouPPW. The PPW campaign, now in its fourth year, is designed to raise the profile and use of branded promotional products. This yearʼs PPW is also raised funds for the Alzheimerʼs Society through a range of activities by BPMA members.
