Top tips for embroidery on sportswear Sportswear garments tend to be manufactured from a tight knitted polyester fi ne gauge fabric. Sometimes the fabric will have some type of coating such as anti-bacterial or moisture repellent. This makes the fabric very tight and brittle, so stitching this becomes an issue. When you try and add embroidery to this fabric, it will hole and pucker. The solution is to change the way you embroider this type of fabric. Here are a few tips. • Use our special unique Super Spun Backing. This product is very light weight and almost translucent, so it does not show through the garment fabric. It is very light weight, which makes it comfortable to wear and it does not cause skin irritation. Finally, you only need to use one piece of this backing as it is very strong.
• Try using a thinner fi ner point needle so as not to disturb the fabric. We recommend Schemtz SPI size 65 needles. These are the fi nest ball point needles available.
• Lubricate the fabric yarn to stop it holing. The lubrication will allow your fabric yarn to move apart during sewing. Our special Fablube spray is a sewing lubricant, and it will dry soon after you’re stitching without any residue.
