FESPA Review

Colour was brought back! F

ESPA opened its doors on Tuesday, October 12 at the RAI Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and with its opening the four-day exhibition signalled the first opportunity for the print industry to come back together under one roof in what feels like forever.

This year’s theme was Bringing Colour Back, which Neil Felton, FESPA CEO, said summarised the organisers’ aspirations for the show after 18 months of virtual events. Both visitors and exhibitors were encouraged through this theme to focus on the future and to keep an eye on new revenue opportunities.

Live exhibitions like FESPA allow for not only viewing new and exciting innovations, but they also enable visitors to nurture real, in-person relationships and connect with their contemporaries and suppliers. Something which visitors and exhibitors relished in.

Despite a drop in visitor numbers, which was to be expected, the exhibitors that we spoke to were more than happy with the quality of those that attended. It seems that those who were willing to travel to Amsterdam during the ongoing pandemic made sure that their trip was worthwhile

A worthwhile visit

Visitors who did attend FESPA, along with the co-located European Sign Expo, were treated to the most recent developments in textile and digital wide format print, screen printing and signage, as well as innovations in segments like décor and vehicle wrapping. FESPA is always an important platform for product launches and a place where visitors can get up to speed on emerging and evolving industry trends, like automation, online ordering and sustainability. Despite much of Europe being in some form of lockdown since March 2020, it seems that this has not hampered product innovation, with many exhibitors

The FESPA Global Print Expo was back with a bang last month in Amsterdam. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the exhibition last took place in May 2019. But, was this year’s exhibition a hit?

showcasing and demonstrating the newest in technology. You can read more about just a small selection of these new products over the page. FESPA also plays host to a raft of informative feature areas and seminars. Printeriors returned, which highlighted bespoke interior décor applications ranging from soft furnishings, window treatments, accessories and wallcoverings, to name a few. As well as the Wrap Masters competition, which was won by car wrapper Norman Brubach from Germany. However, social distancing restrictions meant that Print Make Wear and the Trends Theatre did not feature at this year’s exhibition.

And finally, it seems that with the return of FESPA, the print industry can put the last two years behind it and look forward to a glowing future.

• FESPA Global Print Expo will next take place in Berlin from May 31 to June 3, 2022
