Essential Embroidery Design boosts efficiency with triple purchase from Friedheim International

ssential Embroidery Design has significantly improved its efficiency after purchasing three new pieces of finishing kit from Friedheim International.


The company works with a wide range of customers across its Essential Embroidery Design and Essential division, providing a wide range of clothing decoration services including embroidery, screen print and transfer print. To complement this offering, Essential was seeking new machinery to improve the efficiency of its packing department as it went in search of further growth. This was focused around a solution that could fold, bag and label clothing products from its production line.


Essential approached finishing solutions leader Friedheim International for support with the investment project, opting for a Beck


Serienpacker S2050XJ Bagging Machine, Texfinity S.OMNI.A Garment Folding Machine and Weber Legi-Air 2050 Print and Apply Labeller Station. Essential’s operations director Louis Georgiou, said: “We wanted a solution that could fold, bag, and label as a one-man operation, using these three units together we were able to achieve that. “The investment has really helped us in being more efficient by reducing the labour hours needed in our packing department, which will now allow us


to pursue new work and grow our business as a result.”


Mr Georgiou added that by reducing labour hours in packing, this will free up staff to work on other projects, which will in turn support its long-term growth strategy.


He added: “This has allowed us to take on jobs on shorter turnaround times and given our staff more time to focus on more important organisational tasks, which allows our operation to run much more smoothly.”


Ralph Lauren and Dow open-source new process to transform how the fashion industry dyes cotton

ow and Ralph Lauren have released a detailed manual on how to dye cotton more sustainably and more effectively than ever before using ECOFAST Pure Sustainable Textile Treatment. With this manual, Ralph Lauren and Dow are open-sourcing this improved dyeing process to encourage adoption in the textile industry and help standardise a more sustainable and efficient cotton dyeing system for positive environmental impact. The co-developed, step-by-step manual details how to use ECOFAST Pure, a cationic cotton treatment developed by Dow, with existing dyeing equipment. Ralph Lauren, the first brand to use ECOFAST Pure, partnered with Dow to optimise and implement the technology in its cotton dyeing operations as part of its new Color on Demand platform.

Conventional fabric dyeing processes require trillions of litres of water each year, generating roughly 20% of the world’s wastewater. Pretreating fabric with ECOFAST Pure helps significantly reduce the amount of water, chemicals and energy needed to colour cotton, by enabling up to 90% less process chemicals, 50% less water, 50% less dyes and 40% less energy without sacrificing colour or quality.


Ralph Lauren began integrating Color on Demand into its supply chain earlier this year and first launched product utilising ECOFAST Pure as part of the Company’s Team USA collection for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. By 2025, the brand aims to use the Color on Demand platform to dye more than 80% of its solid cotton products.
