aking a back seat seems to have been the case recently when an enterprising company decided to celebrate the Queen’s 60th year as regent with a range of commemorative crockery.
What royal fan wouldn’t find space on their mantlepiece for a lovely plate paying homage to her majesty’s Platinum Jubilee? Unfortunately, the message got a bit mangled in translation and the items in question actually celebrated the ‘Platinum Jubbly’.
The design is inspired by the purple Robe of Estate worn by The Queen at her Coronation. The border decoration is based on the gold embroidery on the robe, which incorporates olive branches and wheat ears, symbolising peace and prosperity. Items range from coffee mugs and side plates to tasteful baubles and champagne flutes.
Of course, there is a plethora of branded goods out there, from tea towels to biscuit tins and beyond.
Celebration The ‘Platinum Jubbly’ plate
In any normal circumstances, this would be a nightmare, but spotting a market opportunity with the aplomb of Derek Trotter, stock clearance company Wholesale Clearance swooped and grabbed the lot, offering them up rather ambitiously as ‘souvenir stock with slight typo mistake’. Yours for the knockdown price of £96,000 (exc VAT). You know it makes sense!
If you’re looking for something a bit more Bond Street than Peckham Market, there is of course a selection of official crockery for this august occasion. The Royal Collection which oversees more than a million items held in trust by the monarch for her successors and the nation, has a collection commissioned by Royal Collection Trust to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

In case you didn’t know (like me), there is actually a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5 to celebrate the Jubilee. Now that calls for a bit of a celebration and there are bound to be lots of street parties and work celebrations. Bite Promotions has created specific artwork across a range of products to honour this special event. It has used the official Platinum Jubilee Emblem which conforms to the guidelines set out by the Royal Household. Its food and drink products are ideal for summer parties and events it claims, and include chocolate heart lollies, teabags in a royal envelope, chocolate bars in various size, and an individually wrapped chocolate digestive to grace any royal side plate. Royal street parties look like they could be the perfect COVID-safe event to hold this summer, not that we need worry as all restrictions are being swept aside. What could possibly go wrong? Of course, despite the removal of these COVID requirements, people still have their own perceptions of what risk they are prepared to take going forward. Some of us may still want to wear masks in certain situations, and maintain a level of social distancing, which makes Sow Easy’s latest product such a fun and useful one. The seed specialist has launched a new product to make it easy for staff, visitors and customers to make their social distancing preferences clear without awkward questions.
Brollies & Parasols’ eco-friendly range of parasol
As any fool know, deadlines in merchandise are often tight and getting tighter all the time. So, sometimes accuracy can take a back seat in the rush to just get the job done. Promotional products commentator, Stuart Derrick, reports.
The wrist bands can also be planted after- use as they are embedded with wildflower seeds. The wristband can be cut up and planted in soil making them kind to the planet, sustainable and aiding biodiversity. All three colours come in a pack and can be printed with a logo and instructions.
Great outdoors
Meanwhile, back in the great outdoors, Brollies & Parasols has launched what it claims is the UK’s first and only fully eco-friendly range of parasols. Combining certified FSC wood frames with RPET canopies made from 100% PET bottles, these parasols tick all the sustainability boxes. Not only are the canopies 100% recycled plastic, the production process uses 90% less water, 80% less energy and 65% less CO2. These eco canopies are then paired with fully certified FSC hardwood frames or can even be added to black aluminium frames if metal is required.
The range hits the UK this month and has the added benefit of being fire retardant as well as offering UV 50+ protection and water resistance. They come with a digital print as standard which means that canopies can be Pantone matched for low cost and the RPET logo can be added at no extra cost. The FSC wood frames come with a one or two-year guarantee, as well as interchangeable parts to extend the lifespan of the parasol making.
