DLD College London students shine on stage
Bursary boost for Derby College apprentice
An apprentice at Derby College has been awarded a £1,000 bursary from construction company Bowmer & Kirkland to support his future studies and job career goals.
Matthew Johnson (22) from Breadsall works for Jenbrooke Construction and attends Derby College on day release to complete his level three brickwork apprenticeship.
He will be representing Derby College again this year on the Skillbuild inter-college construction competition and has been nominated for the bursary by his College lecturers in recognition of his hard work and commitment.
Matthew is a former pupil at Da Vinci School and started work as a farm labourer before clinching an apprenticeship with Jenbrooke uction in Derby.

aid: “I am over the moon to be awarded this bursary which I will be using to buy tools and also, potentially, to pay for future courses in Professional Construction as I would like to progress onto surveying and site management jobs.”
Students at DLD College London recently showcased their exceptional talents during the annual drama production, performing a rendition of the well- known musical ‘Guys and Dolls’.
TheWestminster Bridge-based College stunned the audience with an outstanding performance of the romantic comedy, telling the familiar tale of gambling and love.
Guests gathered in the atrium as the popular plot was re-enacted by the highly-creative students. Year 13 students ChristianMitchell and Emina Curic, returned to the stage after last year’s production where they once again gave a convincing performance portraying two of the lead characters. Many students assumed roles which they were not expecting, such as Aniruddha Palanimurugan (Year 13) who joined the group originally to document the rehearsals on video - however he has since taken to the stage to perform.
The inaugural musical at the college was also the first time that the yearly production was student-led with A-Level studentMagalie Basil-Surenthiran producing the sho w, and fellow students working on ch oreography, costume and props.
Principal Irfan Latif commented: “Our students and staff showcased a highly professional performance that thoroughly captivated and entertained the audience; the dedication and enthusiasm to rehearsals was evident, making our first ever musical a great success.
“At DLD College London we encourage our students to express their creativity by engaging in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities, building on their confidence, instilling a vital life-skill. ”

over a thousand children from Birmingham schools compete against each other. Freestyle footballer RebazMohammed and Paralympian Sophie Hahn were some of the stars on hand to inspire the young p articipants.
Birmingham School Games is part of the
national School Games, an exciting fully inclusive competition for school children, giving them the opportunity to experience a large scale multi-sport event and builds on the legacy of events such as London 2012 and Rio 2016.

with Rebaz teaching children freestyle tricks on Tuesday and Sophie conducting a Q and A with a school onWednesday.
The rest of the games featured intense battles between schools in a variety of sports such as football, futsal, para sports athletics, basketball, hockey, rowing and handball. The day finished off with a closing ceremony which featured medal presentations from the School Games Ambassadors and Turkish Airlines.
