icki Chavez Munoz made the trip to San Diego, California, where Merkur Gaming US showcased some astonishing new products during NIGA 2019 in early April.


As the latest stop in an illustrious history now stretching into its seventh decade, the Gauselmann Group’s prime gaming product subsidiary brand, Merkur Gaming, is setting the tempo with developments that encompass all continents, and sees the German company trailblazing across the Americas. We took the opportunity at NIGA to speak at length with Charles Hiten, CEO of Merkur Gaming Americas, beneath the alluring design

of the company’s latest product Rapid Thunder. We asked about the latest developments coming from their US gaming development division, Sunshine Games, especially after seeing for ourselves the impact and excitement generated by Rapid Thunder during NIGA.


Casino International: At G2E Las Vegas, Merkur launched the Taco Tuesday game. What has been the impact of this game in the US and Latin American territories? Charles Hiten: Taco Tuesday is a very special game for us. The phrase Taco Tuesday, that we have successfully trademarked, is so well known in the USA that it immediately makes a positive connection with players. It is a fun game that now, with the addition of Rapid Thunder, has been given a whole new dimension. That is something that is of course true of all of the six Rapid Thunder games that we presented during NIGA but, frankly


speaking, Taco Tuesday is something really special. It was one of the very first game concepts to come out of Sunshine Games and it was designed with fun for the player very much as its priority. That has, as you have seen, worked extremely well.


CI: Over the past few years, Merkur Gaming has been at the forefront of gaming development in the Americas region with the creation of its very own game design studio, Sunshine Games, to cater for regional flavours and idiosyncrasies. Will we see new games for other Latin American markets, along the lines of Taco Tuesday, for instance? CH: The Sunshine Games story began in early 2017. The original plan was to establish a game design studio in Florida, to be close to our main Americas office in Deerfield Beach. I got rather ahead of myself and devised the company name Sunshine Games as being the combination of
