El desarrollo por etapas de complejos de ocio y entretenimiento como el planificado por el Grupo Cipriani es usual en destinos turísticos, y especialmente en estos días de incertidumbre económico, es un estrategia sana y responsable. El ministro de turismo, Germán Cardozo, dijo que el cambio no implicará una disminución de metros construidos, ni tampoco de cantidad de personal empleado. Además, señaló que la negociación del nuevo proyecto se hace entre la empresa y la intendencia de Maldonado y dijo que “es esperable que la obra comience en el Primer semestre de este año”.

IJL participará en Apelación para la legalización del Juego


La junta directiva del Instituto Brasileiro Jogo Legal - IJL se reunió el jueves 21 de febrero en Sao Paulo para decidir sobre diversas acciones de interés para el sector y tratar de agilizar la legalización de los juegos de azar en Brasil.


Como el único amicus curiae en la Apelación Extraordinaria (RE


966.177) con repercusión general, que tiene fecha de juicio para el 7 de abril por el Pleno de la Corte Suprema, IJL presentará un Memorial que se entregará a los ministros con un resumen de los principales hechos sobre el juicio y los argumentos que sustentan la tesis de lo que será juzgado. Cabe recordar que el recurso interpuesto por la Fiscalía del


estado de Rio Grande do Sul en la Corte Suprema cuestiona la sentencia de la Clase Recursiva de los Tribunales Penales Especiales, que definió como atípica la conducta en la explotación de los juegos de azar, haciendo caso omiso de la práctica como delito menor penal por considerar que los motivos que sustentaron la prohibición de los juegos de azar no se ajustan a los principios constitucionales vigentes. En otras acciones que ha definido el colegiado será la reanudación


de las audiencias públicas en Brasilia. La propuesta de IJL es comenzar a tratar la legislación de los juegos de azar en Brasil con los presidentes electos de la Cámara de Diputados y del Senado Federal, además de intensificar los contactos con el Ejecutivo.

IJL to participate in Supreme Court Appeal on Gambling Legalization


The board of directors of Instituto Brasileiro Jogo Legal (IJL) met on Thursday, February 21 in Sao Paulo to decide on various actions of interest for the gambling industry and to try to expedite the legalization of gambling in Brazil. As the only amicus curiae participant in the Extraordinary Appeal case (RE 966.177) that will have overall repercussions in the country, at the Plenary of the Supreme Court on April 7, IJL will present a Memorial to be given to ministers, addressing all the main facts about the case and the arguments underpinning the gambling controversies for the Supreme Court to judge. The case deals with the appeal of the State Prosecutor’s Office of Rio Grande do Sul in the Supreme Court, which calls into question the judgment passed by the Special Penal Court in a Class action where exploitation of gambling games was branded a criminal act, ignoring the practice of classing it as a misdemeanour on the grounds that the prohibition of gambling does not conform to de facto current constitutional principles. In other actions by IJL, as defined by the collegiate, will be the


resumption of public hearings in Brasilia, with IJL’s proposal supporting gambling legislation in Brazil with meetings with the presidents-elect of the Chamber of Representatives and the Federal Senate, as well as plans to intensify contacts with the Executive.
