INDUSTRY UPDATE WORKTOP FABRICATORS FEDERATION
WhyWorktop Fabricators should have a voice – and a seat at the table
THE KBSA COLUMN
T
he worktop fabrication industry is changing. And for businesses operating within it, keeping pace with new
regulations, working practices, technologies and customer expectations can be challenging. That is where the Worktop Fabricators Federation (WFF) sees an
opportunity: bringing the industry together to share knowledge, raise standards and give professional fabricators a stronger collective voice. Established in 2020, the WFF has built a community around one simple
principle – that the sector is stronger when fabricators work together. Professionalism and best practice are central to the WFF’s objectives.
Membership gives established businesses the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to quality workmanship and responsible working practices, while the WFF Quality Mark provides additional recognition for members who have successfully completed an independent occupational hygiene assessment. Health and safety is another key area. With silica exposure continuing to
be a major issue for the fabrication industry, the WFF provides a collective platform for members to engage with important industry discussions and consultations, including those involving the Health and Safety Executive. There are practical commercial benefits, too. Members can access
business-growth resources, market information and industry tools, alongside discounts on areas such as consultancy, insurance and professional training. Promotional opportunities can also help businesses raise their profile with customers and industry partners.
A collective voice Perhaps the most important benefit, however, is influence. A single fabricator can find it difficult to shape an industry-wide conversation. A representative federation has a louder voice. For businesses looking beyond the immediate demands of today’s
workshop, WFF membership offers an opportunity to contribute to the standards, practices and direction of the UK surface fabrication sector – while learning from the people working in it every day. Fabricator membership is currently £500 per year, with associated
membership available from £250. For more information, visit the Worktop Fabricators Federation website.
