HPP heralding a new era for Blum bedroom drawers A
new era for Blum bedroom drawers is being ushered in by Hill’s Panel Products (HPP), the Oldham-based board, doors and fittings supplier and manufacturer.
The shift from Blum’s traditional 230M bottom fixed runners and Metabox range to its new and updated Tandem 19 offer is part of HPP’s role as an official brand partner with the market-leading Austrian company – one of only four in the UK. It means HPP is launching a concerted marketing effort to encourage its customers to switch to Tandem 19 in readiness for the phasing out of the alternative ageing systems, traditionally these were seen as Blum’s economy options, but are no longer as cost effective as they once were due to the increasing prices of raw materials them more expensive to manufacture.
Mark Smith, HPP’s Technical Lead, says: “Tandem 19 Runners feel like a quality product because that’s what it is, but the price gap between this level of quality and the lower end of the market is narrowing all the time.
“In addition, Metabox, which came on the market in 1987 has become an OAP, especially its dated running system. It still has its benefits, but they are far outweighed by the advantages of Tandem 19, such as built-in soft close and the availability of a handle-free, tip-on version. The running action is one of the best on the market, and the load capacity is much better.” The other advantages of Tandem 19 Runners include:
• Wider (up to 1400mm) and deeper (up to 750mm) drawers.
• Full extension for easier access. • Increased load capacity (30-50kg vs 25kg). • Colour matching with cabinets. • No visible front brackets.
• Drawers can be created using off cuts from 18mm board, thus saving on cost.
• Same drilling patterns as existing products.
Mark adds: “Benefits such as colour matching the drawers with cabinets, and deeper and wider options, create greater design opportunities, and it means our customers can provide their clients with more personalised options rather than every drawer looking the same, which it does with the single cream option in Metabox.
“I think it’s fair to acknowledge the Tandem 19 Runner is a little more expensive, and the manufacturing is more involved, but it’s all worth it for the upmarket product that results. The fact

that Tandem 19 will soon be available with integrated tip-on makes it an even better option in the future.”
