Ceramique Internationale Helps Runners Reach £50k Fundraising Target

Tile specialist, Ceramique Internationale, has supported the Great North Run Penguins as they competed for the tenth, and probably final, time and hit an impressive total of more than £50,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research. Dating back to the 1990s, Team Penguin began as a group of friends wearing penguin suits to a fancy-dress party, which led to one member, Richard Logan, being challenged to complete the 2005 Great North Run in full penguin costume. Snowballing from there, with many friends and colleagues taking part over the years, the penguin runners have become a familiar sight in the race. The group decided that this year was the Penguins’ last, with a number of the original members retiring from running. Ceramique Internationale has supported the group since 2016, when its very own Specification Sales Director, David Longbottom, began taking part in the team’s half-marathon efforts, having always sponsored the penguins. https://ycrgreatnorthrun2019.everydayhero.com/uk/team-penguin-2019

Franke retailers raise a Blooming Great £4,697 for Marie Curie

In June, Franke helped its More in Store retailers to host ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’ events across the country to raise funds for Marie Curie. Funds have now been counted-up with 87 retailers and supporters raising a total of £4,697 for the charity.

Franke has been supporting the event for the past six years and has raised a total of over £28,000 for Marie

Curie which supports people living with a terminal illness, and their families. Award-winning cookbook author and culinary historian, Regula Ysewijin, created an exclusive Victoria sponge cake for this year’s tea parties and Franke donated two to each participating retailer. In honour of Queen Victoria’s 200th anniversary, Regula took the cake back to its original roots, serving it up in fingers as opposed to the round shape we all know today. Franke also provided retailers with free marketing packs which included posters, postcards and tent cards to help them promote the event in their local communities.

Jeanette Ward Franke Communications Manager said: “We’re incredibly grateful for the continued support of all of our wonderful retailers who have supported the ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’ events both this year, and since we launched in 2014. To have raised a total of £28,000 during that time to support the incredible work of Marie Curie is something they can all be proud of and we’d like to thank them for the hard work they put in to making the event a success.”

TTA holds second training course for large format wall & floor tile and panel installation

T

TA is a CITB-Approved Training Organisation (ATO). As such it organises training courses on a variety of subjects. The latest has focused on Large Format Wall & Floor Tiles and Panels, and was the second training session run by TTA on this subject. The aim of the course is to increase the understanding and competence of installers with regard to the fixing of these new types of tile, which are currently very popular.

The session took place at the Innovation Technology Centre at Building Adhesives Ltd in Stoke-on-Trent. In addition to providing the venue and lunch, BAL supplied the boards, large format panel and the adhesives. The event was a great success, attended by 20 contractors plus guests. The subject matter covered all aspects of large format tile and panel installation, including the particular requirements of the latest British Standard – BS 5385-1: 2018, which specify the requirement for mechanical fixing where tiles greater than 0.1m2 face area are to be fixed above 3m from floor level.

ATO status means that the training courses that TTA provides are run to a defined and industry-agreed standard. The Large Format course is one of a number of short duration training courses approved and designed to upskill professional tilers. They are open to both experienced and inexperienced tilers, as well as students and lecturers. They are also open to both members and non-members of TTA. Participants may be eligible to apply for funding from CITB to assist with the costs incurred in attending.

The course goes hand-in-hand with the TTA Technical Committee’s publication on ‘Large Format Wall & Floor Tiles and Panels in Internal Tiling’, which has recently been updated to provide guidance on the latest generation of large format tiles and panels. This guidance document is available free of charge to TTA members and those attending training courses.
