BRASSWARE & ACCESSORIES
rofessional bathroom designers, retailers and specifiers want bathroom taps, mixers, and shower components that are safe for their customers and enhance their business. Brassware should be consumer-safe; thermostatic controls, extended warranties and retailer compliance (WRAS approval, Water Labelling and CE/British marking).
Brassware that delivers P
Comment by Margaret Talbot Marketing Manager, VitrA
High-quality, high-performance brassware is an investment. Taps and mixers are as design critical as the furniture or ceramicware and the priority in function terms. Retailers offering a greater choice of luxury branded fittings benefit from the distinctive style that comes from the input of highly skilled, professional designers. Also, the ease and adaptability of water-delivery, tangible water savings and reassurance of the enduring quality that comes with manufacturing using the very best materials.
A good brassware range, like our own Origin range, should offer the best possible choice of co- ordinated fittings and will very often also include accessories to complete the look. Superior manufacturing means using top quality brass that
can be milled or cast to provide good, clear waterways within the fittings. The single-lever ceramic cartridge that controls water flow means that the tap can be turned on or off with minimum effort. These cartridges should be sourced from an established, top quality manufacturer – something that the very best brassware manufacturers always ensure. The combination of pore-free brass and a ceramic cartridge means that manufacturers can offer various styles that will all operate effectively at 0.5 bar – essential in the UK where water pressure can be variable.
Chrome remains the leading finish in bathroom brassware, but other finishes such as polished copper, brushed nickel, rose gold and matt black are increasingly available. These colours and, increasingly textures too, cover every style and size of the bathroom. Choosing top quality brassware that benefits from the input of expert design and manufacture makes sense. Good quality brassware should comply with British standards; BS5412, which sets rules for performance, BS1010 for dimensions and compatibility, and BS12540 for plating standards.
