BEST OF BRITISH

Make a difference and design British T

he UK property market has seen much change, with endless retail opportunities for British design and manufacturing coming to the fore and demonstrating a strong appreciation for home-grown talent and custom-made furniture solutions.

Comment by Simon Bodsworth Managing Director, Daval Furniture

The UK has one of the largest design sectors in Europe, which has empowered British-made furniture steeped in tradition to become a resourceful alternative for bespoke residential kitchen design. I believe this has stemmed from the growing consumer-sensitivity for sustainable interior design. Buying British is therefore a highly regarded proposition for both the retailer and end user and with so much innovation, ensuring you have this type of point of difference will help you remain competitive and provide an autonomous product offering.

As a true British manufacturer, we are in a very healthy position to support our retail network with a furniture solution that is not only profitable, but defines you from the competition. Buying British will increase your capabilities for managing economic crisis and allow you to remain flexible in terms of your orientation to retail. Every year brings new challenges and opportunities in business, regardless of the

bigger picture. However British manufacturing not only pays huge dividends for unlocking the value of the circular economy, but it also promotes a more regenerative approach to retail. We can no longer follow the ‘take-make- dispose’ strategy long associated with the more traditional linear economy. Instead, we must be quick to innovate and ensure a range of bullet- proof concept designs that do not rely on exports.

Interestingly, British product specification is environmentally superior and it offers a great way to really get to know your customers and become a recognised local resource in your area. Saving you time, money and energy, you can be rest assured that all UK-manufactured products will meet British design standards and specifications and in most cases, benefit from shorter lead times and rate of supply. It is fundamental to remain an innovator and not allow retail margins to be squeezed by your customers, so taking a British-made approach to kitchen specification will provide a novel hook to promote your business, reduce your carbon footprint by not selling goods imported from abroad and most importantly, help boost Britain’s economy.

Harvey Maria launches Northmore Collection

Harvey Maria has launched its Northmore Collection. Inspired by original encaustic floor tile designs, the brand new collection blends unique decorative pattern, heritage colour pigment and authentic patina. Six colourways have been carefully developed to form a natural palette, from stone to soft black.

Whilst inlaid tiles date back to the late Medieval period, Mintons was recognised as the pioneer of robust and stylish ceramic encaustics in the mid 19th century. Harvey Maria has reinterpreted these iconic Victorian designs, creating a collection for modern living - performance, comfort and acoustics being top of mind. The range includes three earth-grey neutrals – Pembroke Slate,

Soapstone and Mortar – along with Waterhouse Blue, Sable Black and Fired Terracotta. “Many original

encaustics that were covered up in the 60’s

and 70’s have been rediscovered and restored. Our own Northmore designs celebrate these stylish and durable tiles, capturing their essence in a form that meets today’s demands,” explained Harvey Maria’s Founder, Mark Findlay.

Harvey Maria has been creating luxury vinyl tiles since 1995. All designs are durable and practical, providing a waterproof and slip resistant finish. To find out more and to request Northmore samples, email or visit the website.
