The venue has a dedicated ‘Laundry World’ and ‘Lemon World’, both of which have tailored lighting colourways, bespoke soundscapes, and responsive features. These include ripple- effect floors, haze and fog effects, and three-dimensional light installations that build a sense of discovery in every area. HiiLIFE also installed hidden screens that display varied content depending on the zone, while exterior-facing screens share glimpses of the activity to shoppers outside. The priority for HiiLIFE was to integrate these elements into a

coherent, controllable system that transformed a vision into an adaptable, commercially effective reality for Oxygen. By using zoned AV and lighting systems, venues can adjust spaces quickly, from high-energy children’s sessions to calmer, adult-focused events. Technology as part of the environment The façade of a retail and leisure outlet can play a vital role in attracting footfall. As well as enhancing the consumer experience, hospitality curators should look to use technology that captivates both planned and impulse visitors. While technology has become essential for creating aesthetically appealing designs in the activation areas of hospitality venues, it also enhances other commercially viable spaces. These might include installing privately booked party rooms with their own display screens, café areas that feature digital menu boards, and in-built security screens. Improving the quality of such areas

can facilitate more income generation by levelling up the overall customer experience. Why the delivery partner matters The difference between simply having a strong idea for a hospitality venue and successfully bringing that vision to life often lies in the quality of the delivery partner. The challenge is not simply to install themed lighting or interactive floors, but to ensure that dozens of different systems operate together without conflict, day after day. For instance, at Oxygen Activeplay, HiiLIFE needed to deliver the

concept within a tight timeframe, drawing on the team’s expertise in integrating AV, lighting, interactive media and safety systems into a single operational framework. A model for the future The MediaCity project reflects a broader trend in leisure design: technology is no longer an add-on, but a core part of the concept. For operators, integrated systems deliver flexibility, marketing reach and an enhanced visitor experience. For designers and architects, they open creative possibilities that would be impossible without reliable integration. As leisure venues continue to evolve, projects that align creative design with integrated technology that meets operational demands are likely to set the industry’s standards. Skilled, dependable delivery partners and suppliers play a huge role in this, shaping the visitor’s experience in the foreground.
