efficient buildings in focus at elementalLONDON

New show at Excel London will put decarbonisation and energy in the spotlight, says Andrew Gaved, content programme manager...

Anyone who works in the supply chain of the built environment can be in no doubt that the pressure is on to reduce both energy and carbon in buildings. Whether it is legislation in the shape of the Future Homes Standard, driving decisions on the removal of fossil fuels, or the requirements of building owners to reduce carbon (both embodied and operational) for their ESG reporting, ‘making buildings better’ is an imperative, not a luxury. Our show, elementalLONDON, aims

to tackle these issues by bringing the buildings industry together to focus on practical solutions, highlighting the realities on the ground for those who design and build; for those who own and operate the buildings; and for those who supply and install the technology that makes life more comfortable, productive, energy efficient and cost-effective for occupants. The show at London’s Excel on 19-20

November, which incorporates the CIBSE Build2Perform exhibition, is going to be a destination event for the buildings community, 4,000 visitors expected and 200 exhibitors representing brands such as Daikin, Baxi, Danfoss, E.oN, Mitsubishi Electric and Polypipe. In and around the exhibition hall, elementalLONDON will be a major networking and information event, featuring architects, consultants, Tier One and Specialist Contractors, Local Authorities, Housing Associations, Developers and Housebuilders, along with a whole range of specialist service suppliers and manufacturers. The theatre programme will be

covering the latest thinking, methods and innovations in a huge range of subjects, in no fewer than five Content Theatres: the main elemental ARENA,

the Climate Solutions Theatre and the Housing Hub, together with CIBSE’s Synergy and Influence Theatres. Subjects under discussion will include

everything from retrofit to indoor air quality and from the policy landscape to the opportunities with large heat pumps. Another talking point will be provided by

The HAUS, a two-storey house which will be assembled live in the main exhibition hall to demonstrate new rapid construction techniques, integrated with low-carbon technology and services. The importance of elementalLONDON

as a forum for inspirational, informed discussion and a platform for potential change is demonstrated by our partners representing members from right across the built environment. To-date we have over 25 partners including: RIBA, RICS, CIBSE, CIOB, BESA, Energy UK, the Heat Pump Association, Actuate UK, CIAT, BEAMA, CIPHE, the Sustainable Energy Association, IOR and ASHRAE. The full programme went live in

September, and can be viewed at https://elementallondon.show/2025-event- timetable/ but we already have a number of highlights to get excited about. Here are ten: • Leading architect Michael Pawlyn on his insights into the quest for sustainability and regenerative design. • The Construction Inclusion Coalition leading a panel discussion on how to improve inclusivity in the built environment. • ASHRAE president Bill McQuade on Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life. • The government’s Construct Zero Group discussing Designing for Net Zero. • A RIBA architects’ panel on Building the Future.

• Scotland’s low carbon agency BE:ST offering the Scottish Perspective on Innovation. • A panel of architects and developers tackling the practical – and financial – challenges to Decarbonising London. • Phil Steele, Octopus Energy’s Future Technologies Evangelist presenting his views on the Electric Future. • An expert panel examining whether Water Scarcity is one of our biggest sustainability challenges. • The Great Heat Network debate, featuring funders, consultants, and clients giving an honest appraisal of the policy and technology opportunities. Plus discussions on Low Carbon Schools, Decarbonising the NHS, Climate Resilience, the Mould Crisis and developing a low carbon workforce. When we add in the hundreds of exhibitors offering innovations and energy saving products and services, you can see that our promise of ‘something for everybody in the built environment’ is not an idle boast.
