Depth begins on the surface of furniture
German bathroom manufacturer Duravit has introduced groove and line structures in selected bathroom furniture ranges, including Balcoon, Zencha and Aurena. The design applies vertical line detailing and embossed front surfaces to cabinet faces, creating structured surface patterns on otherwise flat furniture. The vertical lines are described
as affecting the perception of volume and proportion. Fine grooves segment larger fronts, which can make them appear visually lighter while introducing
many bathroom schemes. Available in a choice of close
coupled, back to wall and wall hung formats, the Swirlux toilets offer flexible specification options for retailers, installers and consumers. The range includes fully shrouded and open back close coupled WCs, plus back to wall and wall hung pans, all with short projection, space- saving designs – from as little as 490mm in depth. Each model comes complete

a sense of depth. Depending on lighting conditions, the surface pattern produces varying shadow effects across the day as light falls across the grooves. Alongside the visual effect, the
embossed finishes are designed to increase tactile interaction with the materials. Wood, décor and glass surfaces are given additional surface definition, with the emphasis on manufacturing precision and surface treatment rather than altering the core function of the furniture. ◼
