30 SPOTLIGHT That got me in the door, and then just before

Future Publishing acquired us, there was a restructure and I was moved over to MCV. 30 Under 30 never really came up, but it was cool helping on that and the Women in Games Awards to help other people get recognised.

You often tend to have more than one project on the go at once. Is that variety important to you? I just like to be busy, honestly. Currently I look after the content and editorial side of the PC Gaming Show alongside some fantastic people at PC Gamer and my producer Alan Rawcliffe. This keeps me busy, but then after about six months of that I felt like I needed a new challenge, so started a newsletter talking about shooters, Hit Reload (HitReload.xyz). I’ve been doing that for a few months now, so I’ll probably start firing some new ideas around over Christmas.

What do you think are the most important things for someone coming into games media to know right now?

When I was starting out in journalism back in 2012 someone told me journalism was dying and it felt like the most annoying thing in the whole world to hear, but I honestly do think games journalism now is in a rough spot. The industry is retracting and there are going to be some tough times ahead. Success is still possible and there will always be space for new and exciting writers. People I like and admire recently are Andy Brown, Joshua Wolens, Elie Gould and Catherine Lewis who are all making a mark in different and interesting ways and will surely get their own 30 Under 30 nods in the future. They all have distinct voices, and I think it just shows that there’s space for anyone to be successful as long as someone is passionate, pleasant to work with and is willing to work hard.
