WHEN WE MADE … THE MCV 30 UNDER 30


Lisa Carter, Director at Mimram Media (and former Editor of MCV) was an instrumental person


in the creation of the MCV 30 Under 30 feature. She took some time out of her busy schedule to tell Vince Pavey all about the inception of the award, and why she still thinks it’s important.


Who came up with the idea of doing the 30 Under 30? When MCV founder Stuart Dinsey and I were planning for the launch of MCV, we wanted to introduce some new features that hadn’t been seen in the games industry before. At that time in the mid-to-late ‘90s, it was a golden age for B2B magazines – and we kept an eye on all of them, looking at what the likes of the brilliant Media Week, Marketing Week, Music Week, Campaign, etc were publishing regularly.


Those publications had huge editorial teams compared to us, but we took inspiration where we could. I think it was Media Week which had the annual 30 Under 30 feature – we thought it was a great idea, and so began pulling together our own version for the games industry.
