Nostalgia ‘Daily Delights’ is one of four trends identified in the Dawn Foods Global Bakery Trends Report. It is said to describe how consumers are placing a stronger importance on their mental health and wellness. Having tracked how this trend is evolving and maturing in the market over time, Dawn Foods has identified the topic of nostalgia and the influence of local classics as being an important driver within this trend. Wendy Kamps, Brand & Communication Manager EU & AMEAP at Dawn Foods, explained the thinking behind this claim. “Nostalgia typically evokes a sense of joy and brings about a feeling of security that can even prompt consumers to buy one product over another. Being able to retreat into the memories provided by products that were


well-established in earlier years, can be reassuring for consumers today,” she says.


“When we look at consumer generations in relation to this trend. Millennials, Gen X and Boomers can relate a lot more to these types of products and can be transported back to a specific moment in their lives, while Gen Z will be experiencing some of these trends for the first time. To tap into all consumer groups, especially younger generations, bakers should consider adding a modern twist to traditional sweet bakes.” From its 2022 trends survey, Dawn Foods found that 76% of European consumers said that they enjoy a spin on a traditional sweet bake. The newstalgia trend — combining old and new — is one that is expected to continue in the sweet bakery market throughout 2024. This can be achieved, for example, by giving a new format to a classic dessert such as an apple pie blondie or using a traditional sweet bake as the base and
