I’m finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact we are almost half way through the year already, but I am so incredibly pleased to bring to you our May edition of Kennedy’s Confection. We begin with the latest updates in the confectionery world on page 6, where you’ll find a comprehensive overview of the industry’s news, such as Schenck Process FPM legally transitioning its name and brand to Coperion after its acquisition last year, TopGum debuted its high-dose iron gummy at Vitafoods Europe and we report on a couple of new product developments too.

In the realm of events, we have an exciting announcement for the London

Chocolate Forum 2024. Marc Donaldson and Jo Willis will be keynote speakers at the event, set to take place on October 10th at the America Square Conference Centre. Turn to page 8 for all the details. Page 10 gives you insight into Tony Chocolonely’s second-ever Open Chain event. Here, I provide an in-depth report on this significant gathering at Tobacco Dock in London, emphasising the brand’s commitment to sustainability and equity in the cocoa industry. Lastly, on page 20, discover Schubert’s upcoming presentation at Automation UK in June, where they will showcase their innovative packaging solutions.

Our features section offers a wealth of insights. On page 14, explore the balance SUBSCRIBE

between functional ingredients and indulgence. This feature includes a closer look at Candyceuticals, an innovative solution from Boncha Bio that ensures optimal dosing of active ingredients. On page 22, we cover glazing, coating, and polishing, examining natural and effective solutions that maintain quality in confectionery products. Digitalisation takes centre stage on page 26, where we reveal how Kägi Söhne has minimised product quality variation through data analytics and how Perfetti Van Melle has future-proofed its packaging line by integrating digital connectivity.

Our segment on snacking on page 32 presents a compelling view of the impending

transformation in eating habits. In collaboration with Mondelēz International and partners from the Food Institute, Euromonitor, Kantar, Mintel, and NextAtlas, we bring you a condensed version of the State of Snacking: Future Trends report, highlighting significant shifts in agriculture, food processing, and manufacturing.
