Feature: Connectors
M12 Power family of connectors for harsh environments

connectors – M12 Power – that offers reliability and versatility and is ideal for harsh environments like the factory floor. The key to the M12 series is its screw locking system with a 12mm metric thread, which gives the connector its name. This threaded locking system creates a secure connection, and the cylindrical design is compact and strong. Many M12 connectors are also sealed against moisture and chemical ingress.

Versatile and trusted The features of the M12 have made it a popular choice for designers of industrial automation equipment. The ability of the M12 to deliver power, data and signals has led to its
s industrial applications grow in complexity, there is a greater demand for power connectivity. Binder has a power family of
adoption in a wide range of devices. However, the possibility of mis-mating a connector carrying power to a delicate sensor or a network router gives rise to dangerous situations. To minimise this risk, the M12 connector uses a fail-safe mechanism that prevents incorrect connection. Each application uses a different combination of contact arrangements and keyways unique to specific applications, governed by a series of codes created to suit a particular use. The M12 connectors will serve both
AC and DC power applications, with the 814 and 824 series suitable for 630VAC power installations. The 814 series features S-coding and is available with two or three poles, plus a leading earth pin to provide electrical safety in AC applications. They are capable of currents to 16A, while the K-code 824 series features four poles and an earth contact (4+PE) that can carry 12A.

AC and DC power For direct current applications, the 813 and 823 series offer 63V. The 813 series uses T-coding and is fitted with four contacts for currents to 16A. Its partner is the L-coded 823 series that offers an extra earth contact and is rated for currents up to 12A. All members of the Binder M12 Power
family are sealed to IP67, which means they are protected against the moisture typically found on the factory floor, suitable for a wide range of exposed applications, from architectural lighting to security equipment. Virtually all M12 installations
include a cable-mount connector. For new equipment, designers can specify pre-made cables, with protection overmoulded directly onto the connector, to create a slim, sealed termination that is fully tested and ready for use. This saves much time during installation, and simplifies the task.
