Seeing RED: why Secure Boot is becoming essential for any network- connected device

he Internet of Things (IoT) has revolutionised our ability to gain business insights and innovate. Unfortunately, the
proliferation of connected solutions in the field has largely increased the attack surface – especially cyberattacks – due to lack of robust security implementations. Booting and software upgrades are critical in the life of a connected device. Unauthorised boot code and software components

can be used to attack the network, authenticate the attack as a genuine device and steal or compromise confidential data. Despite the large evidence of
cybercrime, many original device manufacturers (ODMs) still provide little or no security for their devices. In part this is due to the difficulty with which robust security is implemented. However, new regulations will soon make secure boot an essential requirement for any IoT device.
