modes and target wake time operation, enabling months or years of battery life for low duty cycle devices. This reduces maintenance requirements for traditional IoT deployments whilst allowing for medium throughput, on-demand communications.


Compact modules for large-scale connectivity It’s understandable that developers might be reluctant to embrace new wireless protocols for their IoT networks, but adoption doesn’t have to be diffi cult. Solutions exist for compact Wi-Fi HaLow integration with reduced RF design complexity. T e FGH100M Wi-Fi HaLow module (Figure 2)


from Quectel is a prime example of how simple technology adoption can be. T e module off ers Wi-Fi HaLow functionality in a 13 × 13 × 2.2mm 0.72g package, making it suitable for lightweight, space-constrained IoT devices. Power supply options include 3-3.6V for direct operation from


batteries, or 1.8-3.6V from the device’s I/O, making it easy to slot the FGH100M module into existing designs. Integration via single SDIO, SPI and antenna interfaces further


streamlines development. Quectel also off ers pre-certifi cation for Europe, America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, easing compliance and accelerating time-to-market. T e FGH100M series comprises two models serving diff erent


applications through high and low maximum physical layer data rates, although real-world performance will depend on the installation conditions. T e FGH100MAAMD off ers data streams to 3.3Mbit/s, supporting low-to-moderate throughput applications such as smart door locks and voice assistants. For


higher-throughput applications, such as compressed video intercom systems for example, which might require larger fi rmware updates or bandwidth-constrained data streaming, the FGH100MABMD supports rates to 32.5Mbit/s, depending on the channel confi guration.


Developers need long-range protocols Given that the IoT is constantly evolving, it’s clear that developers increasingly need long-range protocols that off er moderate data throughput at scale. Wi-Fi HaLow fi ts this niche well, with the added benefi ts of good wall penetration and native IP support. T anks to an easy-to-integrate design and pre- certifi cation, Quectel’s FGH100M modules present a fast way to implement Wi-Fi HaLow across various applications.
