31 Beko’s EcoSmart Six Litre Dishwasher with AquaIntense (DFN28320) fabric quality, which results in longer wear,”

comments David Palmer, LG Product Specialist – Home Appliances. “LG recently conducted a study with the Energy

Saving Trust which found that, compared to a similar sized A+ rated washing machine, an A+++ washing machine will save you the same amount of CO2 as the equivalent to driving 370 miles every year.” Ros Collins, Category Manager Laundry, BSH Home Appliances, adds: “Sensor technology has transformed the way we wash, weighing the size of the load and allocating the optimum amount of time, water and energy needed to wash it. “The Bosch i-DOS washing machine goes one step further and not only senses the right amount of water to use, but also the exact amount of detergent to the optimum dose.” She adds that with Bosch VarioPerfect washing machines you can set the majority of programs to be quicker or more efficient with the SpeedPerfect and EcoPerfect functions. This reduces the wash time by up to 65 per cent and energy usage by up to 50 per cent. Also, in order to take advantage of the cheaper electricity tariff at night, there is a 24- hour Start Delay function to pre-set the required time for the machine to start.

Saving on household bills Retailers nowadays need to educate consumers on making sustainable choices. Whether that’s opting for an A+++ energy rated washing machine, or dishwasher that uses little water, the best way to make a difference and have an impact on something begins at home. “Buying a dishwasher is a great step in making sustainable choices as washing up by hand can waste a large amount of energy and it uses 74 per cent more water than using a dishwasher,” states Beko plc’s Head of Marketing, Keval Shah. “Dishwashers are no longer deemed a luxury, but essential for busy families; the energy

efficiency and water saving message is key for this market, with many of our models using just six litres of water to wash an entire 13-place setting. Our EcoSmart Six Litre Dishwasher with AquaIntense (DFN28320) offers the lowest water consumption on the market, and definite USP for customers keen to save on their bills.”

Waste not, want not Elsewhere, many fridge-freezers are now designed with features that enable food to last longer and therefore reduce wastage. These key features, such as Caple Fresh technology, have been designed to help the user keep their food fresher for longer. Caple’s CAFF60 fridge-freezer features a stainless steel interior and exterior and is rated A++ for energy efficiency; it features six compartments and three temperature zones, which can be turned off independently for added flexibility and efficiency. In

addition, key features of the A++ rated

RiL1795 fridge include Caple Fresh technology, which eliminates ethylene gas (a by-product of fresh foods) inside the vegetable drawer, therefore allowing food to last longer. Also, if you’re considering noise pollution inside the home, with a maximum sound level of just 40dB (conversation levels are 59dB), this quiet model is ideal for open-plan kitchens where a lot of family living takes place on a day-to-day basis. “Developing eco-friendly appliances will always be a cornerstone of our future roadmap,” explains Luke Harding, Head of Electrical Retail at AEG. “We will continue to develop products with excellent environmental performance and a focus on energy efficiency. Moreover, we will drive the market through awareness-rising customer and consumer campaigns.”

Launched in 2018, the A+++ energy rated SCE8186VTC frost-free integrated fridge freezer joined the AEG family of products. Equipped with ‘DynamicAir’ technology, consumers are

guaranteed a constant chilled airflow with stable temperature throughout every shelf. This product consumes 20 per cent less energy when compared with appliances that also have an A+++ energy label; features such as the temperature display and advanced touch controls allows the user to take full control of food storage conditions in addition to having the added benefit of optimised energy usage. Mr Harding reports that product energy use is

responsible for over 80 per cent of the population’s climate impact; therefore, product energy efficiency through the use of smart technology is where we can make our greatest contribution to tackling climate change. “Efficiency targets and KPIs are integrated into our product generation planning – supported by an analysis of the regulatory landscape, energy labelling, market position and energy-efficiency improvements,” he continues.

Mr Palmer agrees. He says that LG aims to develop a variety of eco-friendly appliances that range in price point, functionality and features, so that varying consumer requirements can be met, and eco-friendly technology is available to everyone.
