Staff at AO continue raising money for charity

A group of 11 employees at AO embarked on a challenging six-hour hike to raise funds for type one diabetes charity, JDRF. The group, who are all members of the Bolton-

based retailer’s customer relationship management (CRM)

team, walked 19km around Rivington and

Belmont in Lancashire; they raised £1,587, including a £470 boost from the AO Smile Foundation – the retailer’s charitable arm. AO CRM Manager, Charlie Tuohy, was diagnosed

with type one diabetes when she was 17 years old. She had to give herself up to six injections of insulin

Currys maintains guidance despite dip in sales

Currys said it is maintaining its full-year guidance despite an overall four per cent drop in sales in the four months to the end of August 2023.

In its latest trading statement, the retail giant said like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland edged down two per cent in the period, although revenue trends were better in July and August than in May and June. While sales in the domestic appliance and mobile categories were “robust”, sales were weaker in other categories, especially computing.

Alex Baldock, Currys CEO, said: “Our

priorities this year are simple: to keep the UK and Ireland’s encouraging momentum going, and to get the Nordics back on track. We’re making good progress on both, in what continues to be a challenging economic environment. We remain confident that we’re building a stronger business that’s resilient today and fit to prosper in the longer term.”

Hisense extends strategic partnership with UEFA

Hisense has announced that it will be a global sponsor of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, following on from past tournament sponsorship in 2016 and 2020, and a successful sponsorship of FIFA World Cup 2022. The partnership will also see Hisense gain

sponsorship rights for UEFA European qualifiers in 2023-24 and 2025-26, UEFA Nations League finals in 2025, UEFA U21 EURO 2025, Finalissima 2024, and UEFA Futsal 2026 as part of the deal. Howard Grindrod, Vice President of Hisense UK, said: “We are thrilled to be once again partnering with UEFA on the upcoming EURO 2024 tournament. The championships are an invaluable way to connect with consumers all over the world, and we look forward to providing fans across the globe with an unparalleled

viewing experience of UEFA EURO 2024 through our cutting-edge technology.”

Sports marketing continues to be a key element in the company’s global growth and building brand recognition around the world.

Hisense explained that it has seen overseas brand

awareness almost double over the past five years, with the sponsorships and association with the tournaments significantly contributing to a 25 percentage points increase in overseas brand awareness alone. UEFA Marketing Director, Guy-Laurent Epstein, added: “I am thrilled that Hisense is renewing its commitment to European football for its third consecutive EURO tournament. Its technologies continue to help make football more accessible and enjoyable to fans worldwide.”

“I’m so thankful to JDRF for everything they’ve done for me, so I was really touched when my amazing team agreed to raise money for them,” she said. “From giving me lots of helpful material when I was diagnosed, to funding life-changing research that’s had an impact on my daily life, I really want to give back to them.” Earlier this month, AO also announced that it donated appliances to a homeless kitchen, where some of its employees have been volunteering. Staff on its fast track management development ‘STAR programme’, who are based at the AO Logistics HQ in Crewe, have been raising money for local charity Chance Changing Lives over the Summer. After hearing the charity needed a multi-cooker and a soup maker to help run budget-friendly cookery classes, the online retailer agreed to donate them. It is also continuing to collect donations of food, clothes, toiletries and sleeping bags to help the charity.
