SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERS ERT Awards

A certified carbon neutral event!

20

As one of the most energy-intensive industries, there is a big responsibility on electrical manufacturers and suppliers to source sustainable materials, as well as ensuring products are as energy efficient as possible. Sustainability is extremely high on the agenda of most companies, and electrical retailers are beginning to reflect this in the brands and products they push in their stores. ERT is the leading trade publication for the electrical retail sector,

and as the ERT Awards is a key event in the industry’s calendar it is important for us to recognise these changes and also play our part to reflect these changing values. So with the help and support of our amazing sustainability partners, AEG, AMDEA, Electrolux, The Appliance Recycling Group, and Zanussi, we plan to complete a rigorous data collection process to make the ERT Awards 2023 a completely carbon neutral event! We are on a journey alongside our event venue in London, The Grand Connaught Rooms, to calculate the whole carbon footprint of the event generated before, during and after. Once complete we will offset all the carbon produced by the event by supporting official

projects around the world, such as tree planting or providing eco-friendly technologies to power homes in poorer countries. Charlotte Steadman, Publication and Event Manager at ERT, said that right now it is vital that our industry promotes not only leading technical innovation but also products that meet consumers’ expectations of a greener future. “Brands and retailers are leading the way with this, but we feel that

as the oldest and most established media platform in this industry, we also want to do our bit. “We had an excellent response when we introduced this initiative last year, and of course we hope to build on this further with more partners in the future and hopefully more of an impact throughout the retail industry!” There will be plenty more information about our sustainable event, along with our Carbon Neutral Certification for 2023, in the coming weeks in the lead up to the ERT Awards, which takes place in London on Thursday 9 November!

THANKS TO OUR SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERS

“UK appliance manufacturers are united in and committed to delivering solutions that enable everyone to live more sustainably, now and in the future. Our goal is to ensure that appliances play their part in achieving net zero homes by 2050. “Manufacturers are making great strides in sustainable production and distribution, and in making appliances themselves ever-more energy and water efficient over the course of a longer useful life.

“Smart technology has an important role to play in enabling manufacturers to encourage appliance owners to regularly service and maintain their appliances for optimum efficiency, and many manufacturers are investing in R&D for better connected appliances that can self-diagnose and even self-maintain to an extent. “AMDEA is continuing to educate consumers to minimise energy usage through its award-winning Know Watt’s What campaign, drawing on recent research that shows that consumers will change their behaviour through a better understanding of energy efficiency functions, product life extension and recycling. The appliance sector will continue to strive to ensure that householders can count on their appliances to support the delivery of net zero homes.”

Paul Hide, CEO of AMDEA
